I’m not one for hiring outside help to take care of my home. In fact, while I COULD definitely use the help, I don’t think I could ever have someone clean my home (too picky), or do my laundry….I’d rather do my own.

Still, sending out the wash has become as popular as ordering in, and it saves many couples lots of valuable (quality) time.

But, taking your clothes to the cleaners, the dry cleaners, that is can leave you financially all washed up if you don’t proceed with caution.

Here are some sensational tricks to help save your some dollars and cents.

· Pamper before getting dressed: Experts suggest applying makeup, hair spray and fragrance before putting on your clothes. Allow each of these products to set in for at least five minutes before stepping into your clothes.

· Take clothes for a spin: In the dryer that is. This is especially helpful if sweaters and such smell a bit musty but aren’t stained. Use heat-activated dryer sheets and help freshen clothes up a bit.

· Do spot checks: If clothes contain only one small stain in a designated spot, treat IT immediately. Use stain removing products and sprays and put an end to frequent runs to the cleaners.

· Clip of the week: Check your local paper or weekly for coupons, deals and discounts. Some cleaners offer specials that will trim 10 to 30 percent off your bill

· Lighten your load: Keep in mind that over cleaning clothes can damage their longevity, so take them to the cleaners only when necessary. Clean wool suits and coats once or twice a year and pants, skirts and sweaters after several uses
