They say an apple a day helps keep the doctor away. And, now it seems that some fruit juices may help do the same. In fact, recent research reveals a glass of pure juice can give you a very necessary serving of fresh fruit and help guard against disease, combating polyphenols and guarding against LDL oxidation that often result in the formation of “bad” cholesterol.
Reach beyond the conventional seeking out exotic juices such as those made from pomegranates, blueberries, black cherries, Concord grapes or acai berries, all which offer up to 20 percent more antioxidants than the traditional juices such as grapefruit, orange, apple, cranberry etc.
Besides local health food markets the more “exotic juices can be found in your local markets health food or fresh produce section and typically say 100 percent juice noting right on the label that they contain nothing but juice, and that means no added sugar of syrups or sweeteners.
Usually a bit pricier than standard juices, they are also usually more pungent, so a little goes a long way. And, if you don’t enjoy the taste straight up, try combining these healthy beverages or adding them to a healthy and fulfilling smoothie, mocktail or spritzer.
