While I’m most certainly a bargain hunter (and proud of it), I’ve never really been one for saving a few cents (which may ultimately turn into dollars) by clipping coupons. Yet, I know plenty of people, with good incomes and good careers are a fastidiously frugal and snip for savings.
But, is it worth it?
According to experts often time coupons are offered for “higher-end” products that wouldn’t normally be on your shopping list, basically because they are “overpriced” to begin with. Experts go on to say that coupons are generally to “ploy” to get you to try a product that may not be seeing too much of a consumer response. And, they add that stores, manufacturers, and advertisers are not in the business of saving your money or caring about your budget.
In addition, some note that coupons may cause you to go “out of your way” in search of products that may or may not be available at your local market. But, they add, most of the time, the special trip in not worth your while, especially when you factor in the money you will spend on gas as well as the wear and tear on your time and vehicle.
However, it’s important to remember that coupons can be useful when they will save you, even a few cents, on items you want to try and have planned on purchasing. Experts suggest making a shopping list first, based on your needs, then checking coupons for potential savings.
