It’s that time of year again, the time of year when it’s still too hot to turn on the heat, but not too warm for a “winter’ jacket, especially for those who head out early in the am. And, this sudden change in temperature, as well as the fluctuations throughout the day, can contribute to many of us catching cold. And, even the common cold can knock us off our feet and out of our office chair. But, right before holiday season, a holiday from work and getting paid may not be what we need.
Besides eating right, exercising, and dressing appropriately, experts note some other precautions we can all take to stave off the common cold.
1. Wash away germs by frequently washing hands. Yup, everything mom and grandma told you still stands today and the test of time as one of the best ways to keep healthy, especially during cold and flu season.
2. Ward off colds by eating plenty of garlic. Garlic besides being known for it’s pungent smell, is also known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties.
3. Place some eucalyptus oil, which is a natural antibacterial, into a steam both and allow it to ease your respiratory passages as well as help prevent secondary bacterial infections that can be common when you have a cold.
4. Attack with Echinacea at the fist signs or symptoms of a cold.
5. Chew on or cook with ginger. Not only is ginger excellent for motion sickness and nausea, but it also has excellent anti-inflammatory effects.
