Most of us, if not all of us have smoke detectors in our homes, but how many of us have carbon monoxide monitors or detectors as well? According to experts, not nearly enough of us.
According to professionals, carbon monoxide poisoning is a silent killer that may be present in homes without any signs, especially during the colder months and they note the following as signs you need to be aware of and look out for.
· Carbon monoxide poisoning frequently causes headache, nausea, dizziness and/or drowsiness. It may also speed up your heartbeat, and contribute to loss of hearing and cause blurry vision.
· Often easily mistaken for the flu or heart problems
· Rush person’s showing signs immediately outside and preferable to the hospital.
· Note that the only form of first aid id pure oxygen administered by and at the hospital.
· Carbon monoxide poisoning can be a by-product of common (fuel-burning) home appliances such as gas stoves, clothes dryers, or water heaters.
· Experts suggest getting a professional evaluation of gas appliances each fall, just before the winter heating season
· Invest in a quality carbon monoxide detector and secure it near your furnace or heater and make sure the alarm is loud enough to be heard.
