I am forever telling my husband about other people’s “inappropriate” attire. And, while he often claims I’m too “picky”, it’s nice to know that when it comes to certain “pet peeves”, others agree.
Among these what you wear on your feet. And, despite my personal problem with the fashion statement (or lack thereof) some of this less than fancy footwear makes, now experts are taking a closer look at the heart and sole of the matter when it comes to safety.
According to experts, finding the right footgear is especially important when choosing for your kids. And, they suggest that when it comes to safety concerns shoe style should not be taken in stride.
In fact, they note that trends such as crocs, sandal-like shoes and flip-flops “can” be dangerous and should be worn with caution and only in specifically appropriate areas such as by the pool, at the lake, or on the beach. However, they strongly advice against allowing children to sport such shoes as a fashion-statement, when playing, walking, or traveling.
Experts add, that , as a general rule, shoes need to support the arch of the foot, totally cover the toes and offer some securing device such as shoelaces of an elastic band to help keep the shoe on, and in place. For very young kids, sneakers are best. Think leather or canvas for daily activities, and wet/dry mesh for camp and when by the beach or pool.
