While many may remain leery of anything “new age” or spiritual such as meditation or yoga, if you separate the “spirituality” from the concept, these techniques offer many beautiful benefits.
As we all mature and take on more and more responsibility, we may find stress taking a greater toll than before. And, we may look and feel older than we are.
Diet and exercise, note experts are imperative to maintaining our energy, health, and yes, youthfulness. And, two of the most rewarding practices they cite are yoga and sex.
In fact both can help slow the signs of aging.
Yoga:
1. Reduces Wrinkles: According to experts you can actually see a significant difference by reducing stress by about one-third. In fact, certain yoga techniques can help relaxed tensed jaws, furrowed brows, and smooth away wrinkles adding a refreshed glow to your otherwise stressed skin. What is does is lower the body’s oxidative stress, responsible for depleting the skin of elasticity by about 9% after just 10 days of yoga.
2. Keeps Weight Gain At Bay: After age 20 most of us lose more muscle and gain more fat with each passing year. Factor in emotional eating, expanding your family, and possibly your waistline, and by the time most women reach mid-life, according to statistics, they gain up to an additional 13.5 pounds. However, studies also show that those who exercised by doing yoga regularly lost on average up to 5 pounds.
3. Pain Relief: Experts suggest that yoga is one of the best natural remedies for easing back pain, noting it is twice as effective as stretching.
4. A Natural Relaxant and Sedative: Pros point out that practicing yoga helps the brain release (more) melatonin, a release that decreases with age, helping you feel more relaxed and helping you achieve a better night’s sleep.
5. Sharpens Your Senses: According to studies, just one yoga class can help counterbalance the stress hormone cortisol in the brain. They add that an increase in cortisol may actually cause forgetfulness and age-related memory loss.
Sex:
1. Burns Calories And May Be The Fountain Of Youth: According to experts couples (especially those nearing or in their 40s) who enjoyed intimacy at least three time a week looked nearly 10 to 12 years younger than their sexually “inactive” peers. They cite these couples were often also in better shape with skin that was less lined and wrinkled, smoother and more supple. According to research sex releases oxytocin, a stress-inducing hormone and it’s release helps turn back the clock. And the workout, especially at night, helps you shed some extra calories, and sleep more soundly contributing to helping your look and feel better and more rested.
