We were recently out to dinner with a friend and while we always look forward to his company. We couldn’t help but get frustrated at his non-stop texting and checking of messages on his Blackberry.
Honestly...what comes to mind is: "how old are we?".
Sure I can understand business-related communication, but even that should have its limits and limitations.
Yet, some would suggest that these techno-addicts are exactly "that" addicted. In fact, some suggesst that many owners of these techno gadgets need to be weaned off of them with a treatment similar to that use to deal with drug abusers. Hence, the term "crackberry" (rather than blackberry) eluding to the technological stronghold and addiction of such devices....which, according to some can cause serious damage to mental health.
A recent study at Rutger's University suggests that Blackberry and other such devices are so addicting that users are like "junkies" and can barely go a few minutes without check for texts or new email messages.
And, "techno-junkies" are easy to spot as they take their device wherever they go and keep it in full view focusing on "it" more than on those around them.
Initially the device combining a portable phone with on-the-go Internet access was a way to keep business people connected and "in the loop" at all times. However it quickly become an "addiction" with potentially devastating and compromising social and mental effects.
