This past weekend my DH, a friend and I went to another friends outdoor holiday pool party. And, each time we visit, especially in the summer we are both thrilled to have them on our A-list and envious of their outrageous set-up. Still, not everyone wants a pool or has space for it, or a deck, perfect for partying in their backyard. But, according to the pros, you can still have fun in the sun, even if you choose to keep it simple. In fact, they suggest a sensational indoor/outdoor cocktail party.
Start by stocking your bar with all your summertime essentials including plastic cups/glasses, plates, ice, a cocktail shaker and some swizzle sticks. Store extras in the kitchen or garage.
Spice things up by setting up some glorious garnishes, including lemon and lime wedges, citrus slices, cherries, cocktail onions, sugar and salt for garnishing margarita glasses, olives, etc and keep things simple and laid back.
Make your guests comfortable by adding to your outdoor patio some throw pillow and a mat or two. And, don’t forget to bring some house plants outdoors for added ambiance and “mood”.
Serve up standards with a twist. Put chips in beach pails and nuts, bread sticks, and fruits in (plastic) seasonal, bold and beautiful cocktail glasses
And, while one of you is busy mixing drinks (if you can’t hire a pro to do it) make sure the other ensures there are plenty of standards on hand, such a beer and sparking water for more “conservative” guests.
