Red (lipstick) is hot, red is fun, red is sexy, and sometimes a staple of feminine sophistication. But red can make lots of women look like they should be working in the “Red-light” district.
But, experts note that if wearing red, has you feeling blue about the way you look, all you need to do is find the right red for you.
Red-Hot Red: These bold and intense shades of red are blue-red and orange-red based, and include hues such as fire-engine red and tomato. They are among the most vibrant reds and offer the most impact in creamy semi-matte formulas. Professionals suggest applying with a brush, rather than directly from the tube and using short strokes starting at the center of the top lip, then the bottom lip and working out to the corners in thin, even layers that follow the natural shape of your lip. Pack more of a punch by applying a second coat.
Muted Rouge: For a more subtle and casual look you can opt for a red lip pencil and spice it up by adding your own shade of neutral or brown lipstick. Apply lipstick first, then, outline lips with a pencil, first, then filling in. Or, apply lip balm onto lips fill in and over with the pencil. A third option experts suggest is a red lip stain that goes on “clear” and offers a “translucent”, sheer, high-gloss look.
Create Harmony: Balance out your look by achieving harmony between your lips and eyes. Make sure to keep eyes subtle when your pout is powerful. On the reverse, play up eyes, when keeping lips subdued and simple.
