It may be solely my opinion, and/or just because I really do enjoy some of my domestic duties, including decorating, cleaning and cooking, but nothing compares to a well-prepared, good, home-cooked meal. Still, there’s something about the time-saving “strategy”, of eating out or ordering in.
On the other hand, we all know that, despite our good intentions, our favourite foods are those that likely do us the “least good”.
Still, experts suggest that there is a smart strategy for saving time by dining out or delivery.
They note that on average there are about 1,000 to 1,500 calories in most Asian entrees and that’s without including the appetizing extras such as white rice, and fried, crispy noodles among others. Not to mention that some of the most popular items on the menu are loaded with two days worth of sodium.
With that said, experts suggest honing in on healthy options, and eliminating items such as fried dishes, as well as asking for sauces on the side. In fact, they recommend ordering items such as a spring roll, with two cups of egg drop soup and a cup of brown rice, a complete meal weighing in at less than 450 calories. Another option is shrimp with lobster sauce and half and order of steamed veggie dumplings.
Consider also adding steamed vegetables to your main meal and saving half for another time. And, don’t skimp on “dessert”. A fortune cookie, note experts, is only 30 calories and contains zero fat.
