When you’re getting ready for a trip, one of the most difficult aspects can be finding transportation that falls within your budget. With increasing taxes and fees, airfare can sometimes cost you more than the rest of your vacation combined! It’s important to be a savvy shopper, now days, and to take your time planning your trip plenty in advance. Here are a couple tricks to keep in mind while planning your next distant get-away.

Choose the days that you need to travel wisely. Often if you’re flexible about not only the time your travel, but also the day that you travel you’ll be able to save yourself a considerable amount of money. If you’re planning your way with a bargain site; chances are they have a day grid, which lets you compare the days before and after you were planning to travel to see when would be your best deal.

Always check the round trip flights. This may seem superfluous if you’re only planning to travel one direction, but most bargain prices are relegated for round trip tickets. Check the single tickets and the round trip to find your best deal. If the best deal is a round trip just to use the second flight!

Try to keep the same airports whenever possible. You may be planning a touring trip, visiting multiple locations, but if you can plan to fly home from the same airport you landed in, you’ll be able to save considerable. Not only will you save on your round trip flights, you also save on additional fees and charges for your loaner car.

If you’re not traveling at the last minute, consider possible transportation alternatives. Although flights are usually the fast transport, you can save a considerable amount by taking to the rails instead. Trains will take a longer amount of time, but also provide an entirely different view of the trip for a more leisurely traveler. They also calm the nerves of a nervous flier, while allowing you to skip airport security entirely!

Always check for available discounts! Whether you’re a AAA member, your child is a student, or you’re traveling with an elderly parent, check to see if you qualify for any discounts running in the agency. Even if you only save on one ticket, it’ll be worth your time asking.
