Sanitizing Your Kitchen Sponge

I saw this super simple cleaning tip and had to share it (it may be common knowledge, but it was new to me). If you're guilty of using sponges in your kitchen, and for way too long, here's a super simple tip for sanitizing them really quickly. All you need is water and lemon juice (either fresh squeezed or from a bottle). Pour some lemon juice in a bowl of water. Saturate your sponge with the lemony-fresh water, and then pop it in the microwave. Nuke it for 2 minutes, and then let it sit for 2 minutes more (because it's going to be really hot).

If you're feeling particularly inspired, you can also use your sanitized sponge and the steam it created to wipe out your microwave! The steam should have loosen up any grease and strains that have hardened on with time. If it's particularly nasty (or you're feeling counterproductive because your sponge is dirty again) you can always zap your sponge in the microwave one more time after rinsing it out! ;-)
