Baby blues?

I am in love with my daughter and totally functional, but I find myself getting very weepy in the afternoons. I delivered 9 days ago and this weepiness started about 3 days ago. I found myself crying when DH went back to work, which my mom left, or for absolutely no reason. Did anyone else experience this and how long did it last? I feel like no one talks about this.

Re: Baby blues?

YES!!! This happened to me... but a lot sooner. I started having break downs in the hospital! The nurse sent 3 social workers to talk to me to make sure I was ok... They kept saying the same thing to me over and over.. "The dishes can wait, the laundry can wait.. blah blah" none of it ever made me feel better.
Bottom line it is a BIG HUGE adjustment and your body is filled with hormones.
For me it went away with in a few weeks, but I know that it can go on for longer than that.
I am HEAR FOR YOU if you want to talk! So are all the girls on the board!!!

Re: Baby blues?

Same thing happened to me. My DH used to ask me why I was crying and I couldn't tell him. It would just happen without warning and for no apparent reason. I also didn't really want to leave the house at all. It should gradually get better but if you feel worse, talk to your doctor. I think many moms go through this - you're not alone. Chat Icon

Re: Baby blues?

yes this happened to me especially when dh had to go back to work, I was feeling overwhelmed and I didnt want to see soo many people and everyone kept calling to congratulate and so on and it was getting crazy. I also was feeling sad missing being preggo and I felt as if a time in my like just ended ( the birth of my first child). All I have to say is that it does pass after a few weeks- I have to say that I did pass on a few people coming over it was just too much- I saw them after a few weeks when I was feeling better- that was much needed.

Re: Baby blues?

OMG YES! It was awful! I started with it in the hospital but it really hit the second week I was home. My Mom was here my MIL was coming the following week. My house was a mess and I couldn't take it. I put all this pressure on myself to be the 'perfect' Mom. I had friends putting a ton of pressure on me that I wasn't around as much and not understanding the depression I was in. I started resenting my daughter and not feeling like I bonded with her because 'my life' was gone. My dr gave me Zoloft but I didn't take it. I talked to my BTDT friends and had a good friend that gave birth 4 days before me and we spent a lot of timing crying together on the phone and talking about how we feel and together we worked through it. I was lucky I found out who my real friends were during that time, left the ones behind that didn't support me. I lessened the pressure to stop being the perfect mom and just started looking at my daughter with love and it all went away.

Baby blues or PPD is nothing to be ashamed of! Make sure you have a good support system and make sure you know that it is common and that you are not a bad Mom for feeling like that.

If you ever need to talk please feel free to FM me.

Yes! It was terrible. I would cry for no reason in particular. Luckily it stopped. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Baby blues?

I felt the same way. My birthday is nine days after Emily's. Well, last year my dh thought it would be nice to have people over. I cried almost the entire night while I was trying to nurse my daughter in the back room. When my hubby went back to work, I can vividly remember sitting in my glider crying wishing I was back at work and feeling soooo guilty for thinking that. I was actually jealous that my husband got to go to work. I love my daughter dearly, but when you are hormonal and not getting sleep, your mind can think some interesting thoughts. It past eventually and then I felt soo much better. It is such an awesome adjustment when you bring your baby home for the first time. Nobody can understand unless they have been through it. Hang in there. We are all here for you if you need to vent or just want to chat. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Baby blues?

I had the blues for about 2 weeks. Started 3 days after I got home. I couldn't stop crying. My DH was soooo supportive AT FIRST! But even he started getting stressed after a while it turned into "why are you crying now!".
I absolutelty hated breast feeding and felt so guilty that I wasn't loving motherhood. My Mom passed away when I was 13 so ALL those emotions came flooding back. Felt so bad for myself which I never really felt before. My MIL couldn't be here for medical reasons. i felt soooo alone and incompetent. Every time the baby made a sound I would get nauseous at the thought of feeding her AGAIN! I barely ate anything myself. Good for the waist but not good for baby when you are EBF.

So bottom line....you are absolutely not alone. My baby is 7 weeks now and I am so thankful that all of those emotions went away. Hopefully you will feel better soon. If not please get prof help....I have a friend who progressed to PPD and you really need prof help if that happens.

We are here for you!!!!

P.S. Good for you for posting this. I was too depressed to even ask for help!

Re: Baby blues?

I had a c-section so I was in the hospital for 4 days but my daughter was in NICU for a week, because of low glucose levels. So I had to leave the hospital with out her which was so hard for my husband and I to do. When the day came to get her I couldnt wait, but when we arrived at home I just felt soooo overwhelmed with everything that all I did was cry and felt depressed, I couldn't eat and I didnt want anyone over my house. My husband was soooo supportive and read up on "baby blues" and how it wont last long and I would be feeling better in like a week, which I did and was sooo happy! I was nervous of getting PPD. Now my daughter is 7 weeks and I'm the happiest mommy in the world! Chat Icon

DId anyone find that there sadness was greater or lesser if they were an emotional mess throughout their preganancy???

My emotions are out of control now...there are days where all I do is cry and its uncontrollable...I fear that its only gonna get worse after the baby is born..

Re: Baby blues?

I wasn't a huge emotional mess during pregnancy. I only got that way at the very end as I became afraid of the c-section and hospital stay. So in my case I would say they is no correlation

Re: Baby blues?

Thank you ladies SO MUCH. I can't tell you how reading these and feeling "normal" helps. I have been feeling a lot better the past couple of days - of course, it is the weekend and DH has been around so I'm not sure if that is the reason why. I haven't cried since Friday when my mom left. Hopefully this is a good sign??? Again - thank you all so much. It is so good to feel not alone and in good company.

I was the happiest, most excited pregnant person ever the entire pregnancy, so I don't think there is a relationship at all. So don't worry!
