I've been hit with the baby blues....
I'm having a TERRIBLE day....
Alyson won't sleep for more than an hour I haven't been able to nap it's raining I'm hysterical crying over absolutely nothing
and the worst part is that I feel like I just want to give her away.....how terrible of a mother am I?
Does the regret EVER go away??

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
Oh Shana, I promise it does get better. I went throught the same thing with Kaylee. She went through a stage when she was about 3 weeks old where i felt like i could not do anything to make her happy or comfortable. I felt like such a bad mom but alot of it was hormones, stress and being OVERLY tired. Try to take a deep breath and when DH gets home take a hot shower and a few hours to yourself. That will make you feel a little better.

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
I know exactly how you feel and YES, it does get better
You have to remember, you've just undergone a huge transformation and you're just not your old self, you know? You just can't get up and go out and you have no time for yourself. I don't know about your situation, but my DH went back to work the day after I came home and I cried the whole week long...OK, maybe weekS...plural. I wasn't feeling the love! To top it all, I was jealous that my DH got to go out while I was stuck with a non-sleeping infant who cried all day long and fed 12x a day. I also swore he was gonna have an affair because I was so flabby and disgusting...but I digress
Alyson will get on a schedule and things get easier and you'll love her even more and more. Wait until she starts smiling!!!!! And I also agree that you need to do something by yourself to get some normalcy back, even if it's only taking a long bath.
Know that you're normal and we're all here for you!!

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
It does get better but unfortunately it can take a coupel of weeks toa a couple of months. Adjusting to being a mom and not having my time be my own has been the hardest thing I have had to do but you will adjust, and you will find your groove. Hang in there. Have you tried sleeping with her? I have found that Miranda sleeps a lot longer when she is snuggled next to me and that way we both get some sleep.

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
I have it too. I cry all the time and my DH went back to work and works nights and I cry all night. What about I don't even know half the time Im crying right now why? because I am lonely I guess. LAst night we went out to dinner alone and I was scared to death but I went and left Brianna home with my sister and my mom. I hoped she would take a bottle of breast milk she has only taken 2 before but I knew my mom would get her to if anyone could. Everyone says this will go away but when... I feel stuck in the house I cant wait to be able to take Brianna out of the house... Feel better Hang in there

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
I remember driving to Babies R Us and thinking "I could just keep going, start a new life. That would be great" and then realized that I'd still need to come back for my baby.
It's tough at times but it will get better.

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
I cried almost everyday in the beginning - with so many different emotions. Can I handle this? Am I doing the right thing? Am I READY? When he would just cry for 3 hours straight from 5-8. When he would not sleep - when he slept too much. But then there were the days that I cried because life had given me SUCH a miracle and I couldn't believe all the love and happiness that filled my heart.
It's such a NEW thing - and your hormones are everywhere. It does get easier to deal with but even still 4 months later there are still days I cry. It's so totally normal!

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
Shana - I remember the second week I was home I was hit with the blues. I hated my husband because he could go to work and carry on his normal life - while I was stuck home taking care of the baby. I also remember looking out the window at a guy walking his dog - and how much I HATED him...all I wanted to do was have my old life back, and walk my dog whenever I wanted to. Trust me, it passes, it's hormones...once you start getting out more and the baby sleeps better you will feel like a new person. Now I think my husband is jealous of ME because of all the time I spend with the baby - and I wouldn't have it any other way.
If it doesn't get better, or start passing - or if it gets worse...just promise you'll talk to your dr. about it- it's normal and a lot of women go through it.

Can you get out at all. Even if its to Target or to visit your job. That's what helped me. The days I got up, got ready and did something even if it was only for an hour. Or can you have people visit during the day? That always helped as well.

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
I was that way in the beginning. I actually told DH when he got home from work one day "She doesn't like living here. We'll have to find her a new home." It got better for me as I got more confident in my abilities. Also getting out for walks really helped.
And sometimes when I was at my wits end I just put her in her crib and closed the door and let her cry for 5 minutes and took a shower to compose myself. I felt like a terrible person until my friends who were moms told me that they did the same thing, sometimes you need 5 minutes to get your sanity back.
Feel better!

Ditto for me too! I was CRUMBLING inside. The Jamie that was, was gone, but I didn't know how to be the new me- MOMMY. There are times I still get like that for a moment or two but I just look at her big eyes now and it all goes away. Just know that your feelings are not wrong, they do not mean that you are a bad mother, they are NORMAL part of baby blues. If you feel like you can't be happy at all then I urge you to talk to your doctor. Once you feel comfortable taking Alyson out, give that a shot. I was always happiest out of the house and most miserable when I was stuck at home.

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
I had the baby blues in the first few days Julia was home, I think I was soooo overwhelmed and also felt like my freedom was gone and it scared me. I would BF her then give her right to my husband after so I could go to our bedroom and shut the door just to get some alone time like I was use to. I was questioning myself if I did the right thing having a baby right now, is my life going to be the same? I would just cry all the time, it lasted for like 2 weeks then it just started to get better. I noticed when I had my mom over I felt better cause she was there to help me out so I wasnt alone and I had someone to talk to, I couldnt drive cause I had a c-section so it made it worse for me to get out of the house so my mom took me and the baby for drives in the car down to the beach and we would get lunch. Once Julia and I got use to each other I felt a lot better!! You will be back to normal very soon dont worry!!

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
Shana, You are defiantly not alone. Your feelings right now are completely understandable. It does get better I can promise you that. I can remember holding Jake all day and night (he was colic) I was completely miserable and kept thinking did I make a mistake in wanting to become a mother. Then on top of all those feelings, my sister was diagnosed with multiple brain tumors on Christmas day, Jakes 1st Christmas. I don't think I have ever felt more depressed in my life. Sorry to be rambling on, but I do promise you it does get better. It may take a few weeks, but once your little girl smiles at you and starts responding to you, all those feeling really go away.

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
To be honest, I really appreciate your post. I had (and still have) all the same feelings. Try to get out of the house as much as possible, even going to the supermarket helps. Katie cries a lot- it is so hard to see her in pain. It is also hard to be home alone all day. It gets better, especially when you can start taking the baby out. Hang in there- the crying (your crying) will stop.
For awhile I couldn't even look at her without crying because the emotions are so overwhelming.

Re: I've been hit with the baby blues....
I definately had the baby blues when I had Nick - I cried ALL of the time, especially at night. What helped me was talking about it to other people and hearing that I was not crazy, that it happens to the best of us. And having visitors, etc. really helped - for some reason I hated being alone with the baby - I don't know if it was that I was scared, not confiedent, etc., but whatever it was it was the worst feeling I have ever felt. I had my Mom stay with me for a few days, the MIL, etc. And I must say that DH was the best - I handed the baby off to him constantly! It does get better - for me it did after a few weeks and you get on some sort of a schedule. I think it all has to do with change - I cried when I moved into my new house too! I hope you feel better soon
