Re: Ive got a question...
My dr did my pap on my first visit when I first found out I was prgnant since I was due for it, and it didn't hurt at all. But I needed to followup with a colposcopy at I think 17 weeks because my pap came up abnormal, and that was kind of uncomfortable. I don't know what it would be like though at 34 weeks though because I just get so much everyday pain in that general area now because of pressure from the baby, so i really don't know. They can't wait a few months??

Re: Ive got a question...
I would just guess that it would be more painful because of all the blood in the area... more than normal but they won't wait 2 more months at your PP check up??

Paps are fine.. not the most comfortable experience, but you've already been poked and prodded... You will be fine..

Re: Ive got a question...
I've honestly never heard of one done in the third trimester. Usually a pap is done at the beginning of pregnancy and then at the 6week PP check-up. I'm not sure of any actual risks, but I know even more OB's are not performing internals until 38-40 weeks to avoid introducing any infections to the area. I guess it just depends on the OB and what their routine is.

Thats what I said... I know they are to be done once a year...but whats a year and a couple of months..
She said if Im really uncomfortable she'll stop...but they wanna try...
Ive NEVER had an abnormal pap...so I cant see why we arent waiting...grrr....
When I told my mom last night.. she was like...you'll prob bleed...so dont get alarmed...
she also joked that poking around up there..may get this baby out a little faster

Re: Ive got a question...
Your whole body chemistry changes while you are pregnant, so maybe your OB is just being extra cautious. It may be a bit uncomfortable. I don't believe it can cause any harm to the baby. The only time that there may be a risk for infection is if you were to have an internal after your water has broken (the bags of water act as a barrier protecting the baby from the outside world)
Good luck!

Re: Ive got a question...
i was due for my yearly while I was pregnant and when I asked about it he said it would be done after the baby.... edited to say, assuming you have no above average risk for cervical or uterine cancer, I would wait.

Re: Ive got a question...
I was just at the doctor yesteday and I asked him about this and he said he is going to wait until after I deliver. He said sometimes in pregnant women the results are thrown off.
