Anyone read Kite Runner?
It was about a boy who grew up in Afghanistan during the 70s and early 80s and who later came to the US. I gained so much knowledge about Afghanistan and the Taliban etc just by reading this - highly recommended! And at first I thought it would be a historical, boring book - but it has a great storyline, has family issues, love, career, drama.....very good.

I couldn't get into it either even after reading about 100 pages.

I liked it alot! Makes you appreciate Afghanistan and what they've gone through in terms of "ethnic cleansing". My friend at work just went back there after being gone from his home country for years. It was great to talk to him about kite flying, his amazing country, etc. I learned a lot from it.
Really - who knew kite flying was a sport?

Re: Anyone read Kite Runner?
I thought it was fantastic. It really turns around at a very pivotal part in the book (I don't know what page but it is sort of inthe beginning). I don't want to give too much away but if you don't know what I am talking about, you haven't gotten there yet. It basically explains the rest of the book and why things happen the way they do. If you have passed this part and still don't enjoy it, put it down. You will not get into it after that! There are a lot of surprises throughout the book.

Re: Anyone read Kite Runner?
My FMIL gave me this book to read...she said she really enjoyed it. It took me some time to really get into the book - I started reading it then stopped for a a week or so then started...I just didn't think I would be interested in it. Once I got passed the first 75 pages or so I was hooked. This book is definately on my recommendation list.

Re: Anyone read Kite Runner?
I am about 1/2 into this book and its really good so far. Parts of it have been difficult to read and I have to put it down for a few minutes. It definitely very moving and I feel like I'm learning a lot about a culture I knew little about.
