Beyond the Kite Runner etc.

For those who've read The Kite Runner, Reading Lolita in Tehran, I found a list in Library Journal of titles that touch on many of the same issues:

Brick Lane by Monica Ali
Minaret by Leila Aboulela
Broken Verses by Kamila Shamsie
Maps for Lost Lovers by Nadeem Aslam
The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi (non-fiction)
An Unexpected Light: Travels in Afghanistan by Jason Elliot (non-fiction)

Happy Reading!!!!

I read Brick Lane and enjoyed it. I loved the Kite Runner and Reading Lolita in Tehran. Another good book, non fiction is Stolen Lives by Malika Oufkir. I've heard the Namesake is really good, that's next on my list.

I read The Namesake and honestly, when I finished I though to myself......so? It just did not make any kind of impact on me. I never really got to feel for the characters I suppose. I thought I would love it but nope. Maybe you will tho!

I'm going to see if I pick it up this weekend, I'll let you know what I think. Maybe I'll see if the library has it so I don't buy it if it's not that good.
