Other diets besides WW

I'm not having much luck lately with WW. What does everyone else do (besides WW)?

What about the good-old-tried-and-true.....What I like to refer to as the, "Eat to live, don't live to eat diet"?

Healthy-balanced eatting, watch the fat, calories, large portions, eat whole grains, veggies, fruit, and lean meats.

Limit sweets, high fat dairy and sauces, fried foods, high fat meats, "white" breads and grains.

I beleive in an 80-20-80 rule:
80% of the time eat sensibly
20% enjoy the foods you limit normally
80% of the week get moderate to vigorous exercise.

That sounds great - but I'm not sure I'm "smart" enough to do that diet properly. How do I know if I'm eating enough or too much? I just felt like with WW, they pretty much told you how to eat - this I think is much more difficult Chat Icon

Re: Other diets besides WW

For some WW works, they like that exact amount, things that are measured, etc....For many it's a matter of just taking a look at what you eat.
If you are unsure, write a diary of what you eat, portions, were you hungry, stressed, tired, and amount of water you drink. Don't leave out ANYTHING, not even 1 cookie
Then take a look at what you eat and if you could have made a better choice, or how balanced your meals are, amount of helthy stuff you eat and places you can eat more veggies, fruit, water, etc.

Are far as portions, I like to fill my plate with a TON of veggies, some grains, and lean protein. I eat it and unless I am really really hungry, I cut myself off and save leftovers for tomorrow.

You don't have to eat things because it's there.

I know it's hard, I am working on my last 5lbs or so and I have the best results when I am conscious of what I am eating. It's when you eat mindlessly that before you know it the clothes are just too tight.

And of course I cannot stress enough making time for exercise! That will give you more leway to eat yummy foods.

AND YES YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH!Chat Icon

You just need to make yourself familiar with the good foods, how to prepare them, how to be creative with cooking and experiment, and how to avoid foods people think are healthy or are packaged to look healthy but are not! (damn marketing companies!)

Re: Other diets besides WW

I have lost 54 pounds and have kept it off for a year... but portion control, and also am doing WW. I was not doing as well on WW but better when I was watching everything I put in my mouth. I try not too eat too many carbs, portion control, and a lot of whole grain products. ( Whole grain pasta, WW bread, etc, sweet potato) I am limiting the carbs and eating more chicken and fish like I did when I lost all that weight. It is working better for me then WW, I still go to the WW meetings. HTH I want to lose another 20 pounds.

ETA also write down everything you eat- you will be amazed at what you are really putting into your body and drink a lot of water.)

I see a nutritionist once a week. We set up an individualized plan. I highly recommend it!

that's been around for a while. I don't think there's much substance to it.
