airlines ususally charge a fee to change tickets

I agree. Try to talk to the airline directly. If anything then they airfare will be the cancellation fee plus any overages for the difference in ticket price.Chat Icon

Re: need travel advice.

(Former travel agent)

Is your vacation part of a package? or did you do hotel and airfare seperatley?
How far in advance is your trip?

If you do have a package (where you travel agent gets rates from a consolidater), its more than likely your being charged fees based on the consolidators rules. If your traveling within the next 2-4 weeks your going to incur a hefty fee.

Airlines usually charge anywhere from $75-100 + the difference between the old ticket and the new one.

Did your travel agent give you a reciept when you booked? You need to find out what their cancellation/change policy is

We changed our itinerary to Hawaii with Liberty Travel at least twice. I changed the number of nights, as well as the hotels and was not charged one dollar.

Which travel agency are you using?

The travel person wants to change $250pp just to process the changes and will not do so until she gets that $500. We have a cancel for any reason travel insurance.

Thats ridiculous!!! I've never ever heard of that.

I had a couple cancel a $10,000 trip to Asia and neither I nor my company charged them a fee on our end.

Re: need travel advice.

ok- this is what I would do if I were you

if you cancel- do you get your money back?

if yes- then I would cancel

but first I would look on line and book the trip myself- I book all my own trips thru American Express Travel- they are not anymore expensive then using orbits or one of those sites- you can book the hotel and airfare together for a discount and even call and speak to some one if you need to

you don't need an Amex card to use the service

Re: need travel advice.

how much is the insurance fee? cheaper then all the other fee's they want to charge you

I have a feeling once you say you are going to cancel- they are going to be alot more accomdating- and help you

but look on line for a back up plan- you have plenty of time to book another trip!

don't cry- you are still going away- you just might go somewhere else! Chat Icon
