Sometimes we give Jersey some boiled chicken. She also loves to eat bones w/ peanut butter spread in them. What other foods do you give to your pets? Is there anything they really should never eat? I know I've heard chocolate is a definite no no.

The book (one of about 10) i am reading says NOT to give ANY types of real bones because they can splinter, no matter how hard they are.

This book also recommends people food -- whole grains like rice or barley mixed with carrots and zucchini, some chicken, liver or salmon...as a normal meal once a week or so. I have yet to do that. But he does get carrots a few times a week, peanut butter and yogurt in his kong, and some table scraps IF they are OK for him.

I buy him natural dog food.

Misty gets a little bit of leftover meat when we eat dinner, if she behaves. We just put a couple of pieces in her bowl.
If we have company people tend to feed her, especially when we aren't looking, but that's not too often so we don't worry too much.
We also put peanut butter in her Kong and a stuffable ball.

I let my dogs have small bits of cheese as a treat if they are good. I also give them plain broiled salmon everynow & again...it is good for their coat & skin. Otherwise I try to stay away from giving and "table" food.

If you do a search, there is a huge list of foods you should not give a dog. I think maybe reggie posted it...

Chicken bones are bad for dogs to eat ,b/c they splinter very easily...they only bones they can eat are steak bones or the ones you buy in the pet stores...

and yes we will give our doggies people food, once and a while...ie, when i make chicken soup, I will save the left over veggies, rice, broth and chicken (off the bone) and put it in their dinner....they LOVE it.

Not really....

The occasionaly small bit of cheese as a treat.

We tried carrots and bananna's as the vet said was good for her...she doesnt like either.

Broiled or bioled chicken is good for them, we just dont eat it much.

She gets Rice and or yams if she has bowel problems Chat Icon

Re: Do you feed your dog "people" food?

My Peke is a very picky eater. SHe would never eat dog food no matter what type we tried. Everyone told us that she would eat it if she got hungry. But she never did and she lost 2 pounds! That is a lot of weight for a dog only 13 pounds. With that said we started giving her boiled chicken, chopped meat mixed with mixed veggies, and regular oatmeal and white rice. I got the recipes form an organic dog food website. My vet says her diet is fine. My vet actually said that this diet is probably healthier for her/

We feed them carrots and hard boiled eggs every few weeks and for treats here and there, we give them peanut butter or small pieces of cheese. Once in a blue moon, we give them chicken.

When he was little I used to give him boiled chicken and rice. I also used to give him coldcuts as a little treat.

We found out that he has very bad food allergies, so we can no longer give him any people food.
