AirTahiti and excess weight
Anyone ever flown AirTahiti and had excess luggage weight?
I am flying them next week and b/c I got a cheap one way flight to Sydney my baggage allowance is now 50 lbs, not 70lbs as it is on Qantas.
B/c I have been doing so much shopping my weight is most likely going to go over 50. I looked on the Air Tahiti website and it says:
* Excess Weight: For each bag in excess of 23kgs /50 lbs and up to 32kgs /70 lbs, an excess fee of USD25.00 will apply. * Excess Piece(s): For each extra piece and up to 32kg’s/70lbs maximum per bag, see excess charges in table below
So I called them up and they said the $25 is an approximate fee and I won't really know the true fee until I get to the airport. W T F? Why do you even have that on your website. So of course I am going to print this out and argue at the counter if it is a problem.
Anyone have any experience with excess weight on this airline?

Yeah, I just wish they would give me a straight answer, b/c then I could ship stuff like winter clothes, which I do not need for a few months, and save some money.

Re: AirTahiti and excess weight
We flew air tahiti for our HM in June. Our suitcase was overweight, but from JFK to Tahiti they let us go through (no fee or anything). On the way home from Tahiti to JFK they didn't charge us a fee, but they made us BUY a duffle bag in the shop at the airport to take some weight out of our suitcase!! We were in the middle of the airport taking stuff out and stuffing it in a duffle. We were fine with paying the fee, but that wasn't an option. I suggest instead of taking one suitcase, take 2. If you're planning on taking 2 and think they are overweight, take 3.

Wow! I am not coming back to NY until December, but I cant believe they did that. Good to hear they were lenient about the weight there. I will keep that in mind.
Thanks!
