Honestly, cut out the sugar. A few days of doing that and you feel better, your body is less bloated. 2-3 lbs can feel like 5-6lbs.

Yes. Fruit, while very good for you, is very high in sugar.
Just stay off of them for a few days and add them back in.

I load up on protein and reduce my sugar intake. I try to limit my carb intake to complex carbs.

Southbeach phase one worked for me! Try it for 2 weeks and you will see results! Im not crazy about artificial sweetners so if you can stay away from those even better.

South Beach definitely works for a quick fix, but it is very hard to maintain, IMO.
Phase I is NO carbs, NO sugar (only artificial or splenda) You can have low fat meats and cheeses, nuts and vegetables (except Carrots, Corn and Potatoes).
The good thing about it is that you aren't THAT hungry.
When I was on it I basically ate the following for 2 weeks:
Breakfast: Egg whites with Turkey Bacon or Turkey Sausage Lunch: Greek Salad w/ lowfat feta cheese and grilled chicken Snack: Sugar Free Jello, Low fat Cottage Cheese w/ Splenda, Low Fat Laughing Cow Cheese, Almonds, Peanuts, Turkey Pepperoni Slices Dinner: Some kind of meat (steak, chicken, etc) with side of cheese covered vegetable.
