Why am I so sensitive to this?
I didn't no anything about babies so I did alot of reading and I liked the happiest baby on the block theory that the first 3 months is like the 4th trimester and that you can't spoil a baby. I guess it is attachment parenting. I pay alot of attention to my baby and "wear" her for about 1-2 hours a day in the bjorn or maya wrap.
Soooo anyway....I can't count how many people have told me that I have to stop holding my baby and that I am spoiling her!!!
Am I? Please be honest...TIA

IGNORE THEM ALL. You should hold your baby as much and as often as you want. There is nothing better for a baby than to know from his/her first days of life that they are loved, cared for, and will have someone to answer their needs all the time.

Re: Why am I so sensitive to this?
Listen don't worry about holding your child. I hold marissa alot especially when she is going to sleep she drinks her milk and passes out in my arms or I lie in bed with her and she goes to sleep. Yes I know I shouldn't becuz she is gonna get use to it but I like to do it and she feels secure and goes right to sleep. As for holding her I don't thik 1-2 hours that you wear your child is wrong there is nothing wrong with that there is 24 hours in a day and those 1 to 2 hours a re nothing. There are people that hold their children constantly.

Re: Why am I so sensitive to this?
I am sensitive to this as well-- many people( ahem-my inlaws ) have told me that I spend too much time with my baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are you kidding me? They say that he is obsessed with me and that nobody gets to see him- which is not true! Anyway its my child and he needs me- he is only 3 months. i would continue to do waht you are doing- babies need their mothers more than anyone plus I have read many times that babies turn out happier when they are held more often.

Re: Why am I so sensitive to this?
ARGHHH!!! That drives me nuts!! Everyone was telling me that too, even my family, I used to get sooo upset about it! (Which really made me laugh because they always had words of wisdom, yet their teenage kids are a MESS!) My one aunt told me that my 4 month old daughter was "spoiled rotten" because I held her so much and she slept in bed with us - she told me that I needed to "stop it now" - she's friggin crazy! What did she want me to do, live her in her crib all the time to scream! I held both me kids alot, they slept in bed with us for the first 3 months or so and I wore them too, they need to feel close to their parents, it's the best thing for them! Don't listen to everyone elses advice it'll drive you crazy, you do what you feel is right for you and for your child!

For the first four months, my philosophy is do whatever you have to do to keep the peace and your sanity. After four months you are starting to establish habits, but even then, if you are happy to continue for the next few months then there is no reason to stop.

I just want to say, get use to it. There will always be someone who has an opinion on what you are doing. Many people enjoy giving unsolicited advice. I think you are fine, I have 2 kids and I cant imagine how holding your newborn is spoiling. They have no idea at all about anything in the world except looking for comfort from their Mom. Believe me, you will know when the spoiling is happening. It doesnt happen that early. I believe in the first 2 months as the 4th trimester theory. Enjoy your baby wearing!!!

Re: Why am I so sensitive to this?
AS my sister told me wehn I had my son you can't spoil a 3 month old baby!! Patrick was a VERY light sleeper. And the only way he REALLY slept was when he slept on my chest. So yes, for the first 3-5 months of his life that's where he slept. Other's thought this was crazy but, I didn't care!!!
ENJOY your baby which ever way you want!!

i'm sensitive to this too! but i don't listen to anyone who says this because they are obviously ignorant and uneducated about a baby's needs. my fondest memories of childhood are when I was held by my mom, and i always hold my kids!! before you know it they won't want you to hold them, so enjoy it while we can!!! enjoy your baby!!!!!

Re: Why am I so sensitive to this?
I am very sensitive to this as well. I hold Claire as often as I can. I do not believe you can spoil a baby that young, all they need is love and comfort from their mom, and holding them gives them security. Claire also sleeps with us because she is such a light sleeper and I hear so much criticism about this from everyone, but now at 9 months old we are slowly transitioning her to the crib and she is doing great. Listen only to your own instincts!
