me neither - I just had a unit I had used when I student taught, a few student projects and all my important paperwork - make it look nice but do not be surprised if no one ever looks at it

Re: portfolio
when I was interviewing my principal who hired me told me that my portfolio is what gave me the edge over someone else they were deciding about-it was between the other lady and me and I got it!
What I had included in it..from what I remember, I don't have access to it right now-
All the necessary-resume/certifications/praxis tests scores letters of recommendation Write ups from Student teaching
Sample lesson plans that were successful and sample student work- I showed high, medium and low grades...with comments- remember to black out the names of the students!
any honors or achievement awards
ETA: Better to have it and they don't ask then to not have it and they ask for it... If you need more suggestions, I can look through mine again...

Re: portfolio
I was told by a principal that if you have a portfolio but other candidates do not, they cannot ask to see it because its not a level playing field anymore
I think she was just lazy

Re: portfolio
I was never asked for a portfolio - but I always had it with me. In it, I had sample lesson plans, so that if anyone asked me how I would tackle something in particular and I had a lesson on that, I could take it out and easily show it to them.

I had the exact opposite experience - everyone asked for one!!
I had transcripts, test grades, letters of recommendation (including student teaching observations), student work, unit plans, etc.

Re: portfolio
I had a mix of experience w/ my portfolio. Some asked, some did not.
Basically, I had examples of reading and writing inventories I had done, a unit from student teaching, pictures, and my student teaching observations, as well as my philosophy of teaching, etc.
