Contractions?

Apparently I am having them.

I just came from the perinatologist and they had me hooked up to the monitor- they told me I was having them and showed me what they felt like (because I thought it was just baby movement before).

They checked my cervix and said it was fine and took a culture that they sent out and said it can show whether you will go into preterm labor within the next 2 weeks?
I heard them on the phone with ,my insurance co and they said my contractions were 2-3 minuted apart.

So anyway, I am upset about this- he told me if they get worse I should call my ob but how will I know when I never really felt them to begin with?
I am not going back to that office for a week and a half.

Re: Contractions?

Steph - if they get worse you WILL Know - trust me....but if I were you I would call your OB anyway - they should know about it and it will make you feel better.

Re: Contractions?

I don't think it will make me feel better, I think he is going to tell me to call him if it gets worse, which is what the other doctor told me to do.

Did you get them too?

This also happened to me when I was hooked up to the monitor. I had no idea I was having contractions and no less that close to one another. I was dehydrated and needed to drink ALOT more water than I was. I would definately drink much more and see if they stop as well as call your OB with any questions.

Re: Contractions?

I did.

He made me come in and hooked me up to the monitor, no contractions today but I can't work for a week.
What a PITA!

Re: Contractions?

Try not to worry too much... I had this too... at 32 weeks I got a really bad headache that wouldn't go away and some blurry vision. My Dr. told me to come to the hospital - my blood pressure turned out to be fine, but they hooked me up to the monitor just to be sure the baby was ok. WHen the nurse hooked me up, she turned to me and said, um, do you feel anything? I was like, dur, I told you, I have a headache! She was like, no, in your belly! Apparently, I was having very consistent contractions ever 2-3 minutes that I simply didn't feel. My Dr. came in and ordered an IV for fluids and when they still wouldn't go away she gave me a shot that made them go away. She did an internal check though and I totally wasn't dilated or effaced. And, she told me it's perfectly normal - it's your body's way of getting ready for the big day. And in all liklehood I experienced contractions throughout my 3rd trimester that I didn't feel. Only reason why they treated me at the hospital is that as a precautionary measure they don't send anyone home who is pre-term and having contractions, even if they're harmless.

With all that, I was nervous from 33 weeks and on that I would go into labor and just never know it. Trust me when I tell you, YOU'LL KNOW. Despite my pre-term contractions, I didn't go into labor until the day after my due date, and OMG, did I FEEL those contractions!! Chat Icon
