Re: Question about SIDS

By definintion SIDS is the sudden death of an infant under one year of age. So technically, no. But I'm guessing your question is actually, could a child over one year old die for no apparent reason. I'm guessing that is really, really rare but maybe someone else can give a more educated answer...

Re: Question about SIDS

SIDS is defined as under 1, but they are now associating SIDAwith older ages since when a child dies of no apparent reason (until an autopsy is done) it is considered unexplained, this could happen as a result of sleep apnea or a heart ailment, aspiration, etc. Just another thing to get us Moms paranoidChat Icon

Re: Question about SIDS

THIS SCARES ME beyong belief. Working in an ER and seeing this first hand I have to say it is the most horribel thing I could ever imagine . I still remember the name of the first sids child that passed away while i was working .It is said to be children a year and under and in my personal experience at work for 5 yrs it was always the case.

Like the worries of pregnancy weren't enough. I can't tell you how many times a day I check to make sure Miranda is still breathing. I think I am going to get the Angelcare Monitor when she starts sleeping in her crib.
