the media

don't know if this has been done yet...

But...i was listening briefly to Howard Stern this morning and they were tlaking about the pic that was posted about Sadam in his undies... ANd the stuff that was writen about the Koran.

Do you think that the media should be broadcasting this kind of information while we have troops that are over there and possible putting then in MORE danger...?

Re: the media

This is a toughie topic on so many levels!

First off, I think the media is very irresponsible and sensational with so many things ... as technology improves and the need for "Instant Information" - the media tends to just post anything without checking their facts fully - just to get there "first" and it does the people as a whole a terrible injustice.
There has always been sensational news but the fact that MAJOR BROADCASTER are doing it too now just to keep ratings and be the first to report is awful.

It's dangerous when we are in "peacetime" because it incites rage and possible terrorist attacks, etc. from outsiders ... but it's even worse during wartime (if that's what we call what's going on in Iraq right now) it's even more dangerous because the sheer number of troops that are out there vulnerable.

News agencies and the media are always going to have their spin on the truth - it's human nature for any writer to take certain facts and leave some truths out but to blatently NOT do their research and post anything just to get a story is going to create even worse situations in the future for us. It scares me of the reprocussions all the negative stories has on us.

Seriously, every time I hear something "big" like the Koran story and the Underwear story and the Prisioner story I think well, just add another thing to their list of reasons to hate us and to hurt us.

Well i understand WHY....but i just wish it wasn't allowed....I do not like to think i am for censorship but, although it doesn exsist when we aren't at war, when we are at war...and we have FAMILY serving our country i think it is our obligation to protect them as much as possible.

I think the media has to realize that there are people out there who are timebombs. They are irrational and they hate us. I'm not for censorship but a little more responsibility is in order. You and I can look at that pic and say "Oh, Saddam in his skivvies" and others will look at that and say, "Well, let's go out and kill some more Americans." Terrorists will look for the tiniest things to justify their actions.

DH was just mentioning this the other day. It just makes us look bad and gives them more reasons to hate us...

well imo...WE ARE IDIOTS...that whole issue with the prisoners back some months ago....WE DO LOOK LIKE IDIOTS cause we are....

BUT imo that could have been handled internally until our troops are home and safe...

Re: the media

i think they see it as the public's right to know, but it really should've been thought out more carefully.

yea but does the public have a right to know what Sadaam Hussein looks like in his underwear?

I mean, yes it's funny and I laughed at his expense because honestly I liked seeing him "stripped" of his sense of powerfulness ... but logically I don't think I should have ever seen that!

Re: the media

I really don't understand the need of the media to show this to the public, it's reaally unnecessary and it fuels the hatred of those people that can't stand this country.
