Do you think the news media reveals too much information?
I do. Whenever I watch the news, I really think that sometimes (regarding terrorism issues) the general public should not know everything.
What I mean is this: with all the talk of gasing the subways and impending suwbay terror plots, the NYC subways will now (soon) be geared up with more exits, systems, etc. Al Quieda freaking watches our television stations for Pete's sake...their station, Al Jazeer, even reports from the NYSE floor. Sometimes, I worry that they watch our every move and then make plans according to what info is released. Yes, keeping us as Americans informed is important, but sometimes I think they leak too much information. Am I wrong?

I do think that they reveal too much info at times. Unfortunately, that is why the Terrorists know how to maneuver all the time. They get the info from the media.

yes- after 9/11 a few news paper printed a map to the new emergency head quarters in Brooklyn
I feel like we tell them our weaknesses- and we are asking for them to take advantage

I agree.
I remember after the 1993 bombing at the WTC, there was a special on T.V. as to why it did not bring the towers down. The engineers proceeded to explain what exactly needed to happen in order to bring the towers down.
I remember thinking to myself - "why are we handing them the blue prints?"

Me, too; I'm not meaning to get into a 9/11 discussion (we were both there, in the city) but going forward, I wish media and government kept some things private. However, I am sure there are myriad things we know nothing about...which is good.

Re: Do you think the news media reveals too much information?
In a way no - We have a right to know this information to protect ourselves. I see nothing wrong with knowing what our government is doing. If the media is the venue to which it is revealed to the general public, and it hightens awareness then it's great.
There are just so many people walking around without a clue and it's because they don't watch the news or pick up a paper.

The government reveals sooooo little compared to what is actually revealed to us. It is shocking. There are so many covert opperations that our government is involved with that they do not reveal.
The government unfortunately regulates a lot of what the media puts out there.

Isn't that insane? And sadly enough, they consider 9/11 a failure. They wanted more people killed.

I hope this is true, Chrissy! Sometimes, I still think it's far too much, though.

chances are that the mission has already happened, and this is a CYA (cover ya azz) to the general public to say "see, we told you about it, so trust us."
The government is not THAT stupid (at least I hope.)

the bad guys don't care about their own lives, that's why ours are totally meaningless to them. And whatever happened to finding Osama???? That, people want to hear about!

The government is not THAT stupid (at least I hope.) not all the time. sometimes during the following days they will show footage from operation "snake in the grass" or whatever they call it.

Re: Do you think the news media reveals too much information?
No, because I assume that the information being widely publicized on TV is already so well-known or so easily accessible that it doesn't even matter.
But I could be wrong in that assumption. Sometimes I do cringe at the hypothetical plots that are discussed and I think to myself "Geez...stop giving them ideas!" But I think in the end the truth is they [terrorists] have no shortage of horrific plots that we can't even yet begin to imagine.

Although not a big conspiracy fan, I believe the government leaks the info on terrorist plots, etc to continue to create fear. How else could they continue support for an unpopular war, raise taxes, increase defense spending, etc.?

Re: Do you think the news media reveals too much information?
Yes! Everytime I watch the news and they talk about how terrorists get hold of info - I'm like...why do you talk about it. They don't need to know that we know they know things....(you may have to read that twice to understand it)

Re: Do you think the news media reveals too much information?
I totally agree with you, and It gets me very nervous, I saw this short movie about Indian Point (nuclear power plant) and it scared me so much, it was like telling the terroists, this should be your next hit.... I don't get why they have to show movies like that, that can give them idea's on what to do next.

sometimes I think that.
and other times I think it's b/c they want the terrorists to know that we know what they're up to...

That's how I feel. I think the media sensationalizes way too much of the little tidbit of info that they're actually permitted to release.

I agree with both- they leak to say HEY WE ARE DOING SOMETHING or for when something happens- I TOLD YOU SO
or if Bush doesn't some wrong- the next day the terroirst alert is elevated to gain support back
