6ht grade ELA texts
I have taught 8th grade ELA for 7 years and now they are moving me to 6th grade ELA. I am not to familiar with younger lit.
Does anyone know of any 6th grade level reading books that I should read or that you recommend for classroom use I really appreciate the help!

Re: 6ht grade ELA texts
i don't teach 6th grade, but i teach 5th...here are some authors i like that some 5th graders find difficult, so might work for 6th:
I like anything by Jerry Spinelli... his books can be intense but have a message.
Christopher Paul Curtis for historical fiction (black-American history)

Last year, the kids read Freak the Mighty and Max the Mighty and loved it.

I agree with all the suggestions! I also used Katherine Patterson and did The Cay, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Surviving the Applewhites and Absolutely Normal Chaos.
