Spinoff to passports... has anyone gotten one recently?
DH needs a passport and I picked up the forms for him yesterday at the post office. they told me the ETA now is 5 months for expedited and 8 MONTHS for non expedited 
please tell me that is NOT true!

My brother applied for his in late March, it arrived on the day of his wedding, the last week of July. Non-expedited.
My SIL's sisters did expedited in June, got them in like 2 weeks.

we applied in May..the end of May..non expedited..and they are in the mail supposed to be delivered tomorrow...I heard the expedited ones can take as little as two weeks

I used a service and it took 3 days I think. I paid a premium but if you really need it in a hurry it was passportsandvisas.com

How do you find out they are in the mail?
We sent ours June 16th

if you wait till 2 weeks before you trip- you can go the place in norwalk CT and get it same day- but you can't go before the 2 weeks
my friend at work is getting married in 3 weeks and just realized his passport is expired- silly boy
he has to wait until next week to go to norwalk and get a new one
call them!

i think they are giving you worst case scenario
i applied in november 2006, they told me it would take 12 weeks - it only took about 10 weeks

It depends on which office it's sent to. From what I know it's random but some of the offices have those great big waits and others don't. I sent mine in April and didn't get mine until 2 weeks before my trip in July and it was EXPIDITED!!
