Get the book!!! It is really great. It has many books with levels. not only that, it walks you through the first 20 days of workshop. It has tons of reproducibles and many mini lessons.

The first one we were given was this one. .
It is great.

They also have this one, which is just books.

You can also sign up (and pay) to use the website.

Heinemann has all of them. They are fast and reliable. (Check out the additional books by F and P on the bottom. It's a virtual F and P heaven.)

Does the first book guide you through how to run day to day operations?

Yes (the tan one) does. I really like it. When we first started four years ago, we all got this book. It TRULY helped us all.
It focuses on the first 20 days of Reading Workshop. This is a pretty scripted first month of RW. It then gives lots of info on MORE mini lessons for RW as well as poetry, non fiction, etc.

In the meantime, the Beaverton site is really good- I found it easier to use that then to go through books when I had to level my library.
