Fiance's eating habits

The posting about obstacles to eating well got me thinking about my fiance's eating habits, as that is one of my obstacles. I wondered if anyone had any advice for me. This may sound petty or whatever, but it really bothers me.

My fiance is an "unconscious" eater when it comes to salty treats. He compulsively shovels handfuls into his mouth, so much so that he is usually done with a large bag of popcorn by the time the trailers are over.

It's become a sore spot for us, because it kind of upsets me to watch him eat like that. I've suggested that rather than putting an entire handful in his mouth all at once, he only eats what he can fit between his thumb and two fingers. I've also tried to get him to put the popcorn down on the floor every once and a while. He gets really upset with me whenever I make these suggestions. I don't do it in a mean way either.

ETA: I hope no one thinks i'm being mean. I guess what I'm really looking for is advice on how to get him to change the way he eats his salty snacks. I know it's nitpicky, it's just that it's one of those "things" of mine. Oh, I feel so mean. Chat Icon Maybe there is no way, and I should just leave him and his popcorn alone, but I just though I'd ask if there was anyone else out there who had any ideas

Re: Fiance's eating habits

If the popcorn is his only weakness and it's only when you're out at the theaters, I wouldn't make a big deal of it. If it's every night when you're watching DVDs, on the other hand, my suggestion would be to make other snacks sometimes. So when he goes to pop some popcorn, you can say "Oh, I made a huge fruit salad, let's have that." And keep less salty snacks in the house. If you do the grocery shopping, keep that sort of stuff limited and then he won't have the option of shoveling it in his face every day. That's the only way I can keep myself from eating certain foods.

you are so right. i think i am making too big of a deal of it. it's not every night with the popcorn. and when it is, at least it's dark! Chat Icon If there's ever salty tostitos or pretzels he does the same thing, but we don't always have them in the house. i should just relax.

thanks for listening and for your advice :)
