Maternity Leave Help
I'm a teacher in NYC and I was wondering if I am eligable to apply for a SLOAC leave of absence for four months. I believe they will continue my health benefits for 4 months but I'm not sure when this would start. Would it be the day my baby is born? This is all so confusing and my payroll secretary is no help. She is trying to get me to do the FMLA for just 3 months. But I really want the extra month off.

Re: Maternity Leave Help
I know that you could use up to 6 weeks paid from your CAR if you have a vaginal birth and 8 weeks for c-section. After this you could use another 6 weeks under the FMLA. You can use your regular health insurance when you are getting paid through your CAR days. Once you go into the 6 weeks after this of FMLA you then use the SLOAC (actually I am not sure exactly what the coverage is called). I hope this helps.
Wednesday is my last day at work. I am due in 2 weeks. I am going to take 6 weeks paid through my CAR days and then i ma taking a leave of absence. T this point I ma trying to find someone who can help me fill out the papers. The papers are not easy to figure out. My payroll secretary is no help, and the union is no help. The Board of Ed is so frustrating.
