Yet ANOTHER jeans question
I am not a person who spends a lot of money on clothes. Though I do know what is "in", Im just not into clothes. I do not have a sophisticated wardrobe by any means. I am very much a jeans and t shirt kind of person. My job does not require me to "dress-up" per se so perhaps it stems from that.
That being said...I think we are all in that never-ending search for the perfect pair of jeans. I know Im always looking, but a part of me cannot bring myself to spend more than $30 or $40 on a pair of jeans. I dont have a need to buy a name brand - I am way beyond that - regardless of how perfect they may be to me. To me, jeans are jeans are jeans all made in a factory somewhere and depending on the label thats sewn on it or the rivets that hold them together they can be $30-$300 (or more).
For those of you who may be a bit more fashion and style conscious than I am and may replenish their denim jean supply a bit more regularly than I do, how do you justify spending so much on jeans? (Lets say over $100) Please do not mistake this post/thread as a judgement, I am simply curious.

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
well- I can wear jeans to work now- and I find that for my body- short but not stick thin- the best jeans for me- tend to be the more expensive ones
I refuse to pay for price now- and got a few pairs at saks off 5th today for about 50% off
the more expensive jeans I have last for years and years- I even have a few pairs from when I was 21! that's 9 years ago- and on occasion they fit - and I wear them

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
they honestly just fit better and look better on me. more expensive jeans tend to be fitted in all the right places. they are more "tailored" to my body.

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
I have had a few pairs of pricey jeans, but I have always gone back to Old Navy and American Eagle. I just love the way they fit me. I think jeans are special in the fact that what 1 person loves another may not. Every body is different so pay what you want for what makes you look and feel good. Like I said for me it's old navy and american eagle

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
I have bought expensive jeans ($160, expensive for me) and I bought them b/c they fit perfectly. When I find jeans that fit right I buy a few pairs. To me it is worth it.

Well, I did the experiment. I went out and I tried on jeans that ranged from $50 (Calvin Klein) to $160 (Lucky Brand) knowing full well I would buy what fit the best regardless of the price - it was a retail therapy weekend. I brought home the Calvins. The Lucky Brand's were horribly uncomfortable. Or maybe I just wanted to live out my 1980 fantasy of being a Calvin Klein model because I couldnt fit into the jeans back then - I was a chunky kid:

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
Don't laugh..I found that the Lucky Brand easy riders are super comfortable and I found one pair on ebay new for like $40 and I find them at Nordstrom rack and even on sale at macys sometimes...i can't fit into the super expensive ones, so im shocked that luckys fit at all...i hate jeans on me in general, so maybe im not the best person to ask, but the luckys might be worth another try if you didnt try the easy rider..good luck!!

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
Well, I can only speak from pre-baby and pre-poverty days. I find that 7 jeanslook better on me - I also love Lucky jeans... I am finally fitting back into a pair sice having baby...
I wont even tell you how much I spent on a pair of True Religion jeans (god I miss those carefree days - lets say I could feed Cailen and diaper him for well over a month... maybe 2!!!) and they are my favorite. alas, they now wont travel over the trip of my post partum hips. They are now my goal jeans....

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
I couldn't see spending $100+ on jeans until I decided to just try them on. They really do fit differently. I have been on the hunt for jeans since having my 2nd child and my body changed. I went to Banana, Old navy, Gap to try on jeans and I had the same problem at each place. It was baggy in my thigh and croch area. Finially yesterday I went and tried some $$ jeans on and it was the first time I have felt sexy in months! Everything fit perfectly were it was suppose to.
I say just go and try them on and don't buy anything and see if you see and feel a difference.

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
Same for me-- the more expensive jeans fit me better. The less expensive brands I have tried are Gap and Banana and they do NOTHING for me and make my body look VERY weird.
I am tall, and curvy-- I have a small waist and also need something shorter in the rise. It's not easy to find a pair that's flattering. I need something straight that does not put the curve into the pants-- I have my own thank you! When I find something that looks great-- I buy it regardless of price.
I love Citizens, Sevens and AG. Those are what I found works the best on me.

I stick with Gap and NY&Co jeans. They're not expensive and they get the job done.

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
Good luck Leslie! Finding a pair of great jeans IS really hard. And don't give up! Seven Jeans, Citizens of Humanity and Rock and Republic fit me best. I can try on other brands all day long (doesn't matter how expensive) and I will HATE the way they fit me. Your perfect jeans are out there....but it really takes a lot of time and effort to find them.

They have a medium rise cut and when you sit your arse isn't haging ouy.

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
I don't buy expensive jeans simply because they don't come in my size I just bought a few from NY&Co and they fit great! Then again, who knows because I'm too fat to wear expensive jeans...

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
I am with you on this. I am going expensive jean shopping next week - I might take the plunge. I think if I were to ever spend a lot of $ on jeans I would justify it by saying I wear them multiple times per week and I wear my jeans for years...I would definitely spend a lot of $ on black pants that I wouldn't wear 1/2 as much. I just haven't had the need for expensive jeans since as Shorty said, the other ones get the job done. I do want a nice pair - just one nice pair.

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
I have one pair of Old Navy jeans that I love more than anything in the world. They are long and worn out in the right places. They accentuate my best features and they are just plain old comfy. Til one day DH thought he was being cute and grabbed me by the pockets and virtually tore them off. They are irreparable. I have had them for so long that they do not make the style anymore.

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
It's interesting your post this because I just declared to my friend that I am done spending over $100 on jeans.
When I was in college and law school, I wore jeans every day. I mainly wore 7's and Citizen of Humanity jeans. I bought them because they honestly fit me best - I also need a long length which is not always available. I justified buying them because they fit best and I wore them all the time.
Now that I am not a student and work in a conservative environment, I only wear jeans maybe 1 or 2x a week - mainly on the weekends.
I recently needed new jeans and I didn't want to pay $150 for jeans I will maybe wear once a week. So, I tried on a pair at Express and I loved the way they fit.
So now, I think I am done with expensive jeans for a while! I will say that I did buy a pair of 7's at Filene's basement a few months ago, but they were a great deal, i.e. under $100

Re: Yet ANOTHER jeans question
I like jeans from Express and Ann Taylor Loft the best. I once went into Macy's and tried on all the expenisve brands and didn't like how any of them fit. I haven't tried sevens yet, though.
