Investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what led to a double shooting in Queens early this morning that has left a woman fighting for her life.

Police say around 4 a.m., a man approached a Dodge Caravan and started shooting at the man and woman inside.

After the shooting, the driver made it to a gas station off Horace Harding Expressway in Corona, where the victims called police and friends for help.

One woman in a nearby apartment says she got one of those calls.

"We heard some shots, and like 20 minutes later, we get a phone call that someone was shooting through their car,” said Lea Pittman. “We [can] see the gas station from the house, but we thought they [were] right outside, so we came outside. But they [weren’t] outside and we [saw] everything taped off."

"We found several 9 mm casings outside the vehicle,” said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. “The woman is now in Northshore Hospital; she is in extremely critical condition. The male is in Elmhurst General Hospital.”

The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the face. The man was shot in the abdomen, wrist and thigh. His condition is described as stable.

So far, no arrests have been made.

That is awful. I know what it's like to work in a bad neighborhood, it is so scary.

This must be the month for double shootings, we had a double shooting right outside of my school during lunch hour a few weeks ago. These kids experience such horrible things these days.
