interview: UPDATED WITH QUESTION FOR SPECIAL ED TEACHERS
at the Henry Viscardi School!
I am currently working but not totally happy. I am going on Tuesday. Does anybody have any knowledge of this school???

yes... it is up the block from my school. it is a private school for children with PROFOUND disabilties. this is a true special education environment. most of the kids at this school have physical disabilities (i.e. cerebral palsy) that need major attention.
it is a wonderful school......

The children are also bright...I know a child who goes there and his mom works next door, at Abilities..they both love it and it seems like a terrific place..good luck!

Spec. Ed. teachers, do you think I am qualified with no Spec Ed degree or experience?

It's not too odd... this school works with kids with severe physical and medical issues... they are not necessarily retarded or have learning disabilities. many of them are of average to above average intelligence and just have serious medical issues. I am sure there are some classes where the curriculum is on grade level for these kids and they don't need a special education teacher to differntiate.
honestly, i would go on the interview and see... and i think if the students don't have cognitive delays or learning disabilities, you should be fine with just your regular licesene. there will be paraprofessionals, nurses, etc. trained to help the children with any medical equipment or technology.... i am a special ed. teacher and i dont' know if i would be prepared.. with kids like that, you learn the technology and the equipment quickly and there is always others there to help.

My brother went to this school for about a year. He is severly LD, so he went to learn a trade, however he didn't stay b/c a lot of the kids there in his program had behavior issues and he didn't like being around those kids.
