How many sonograms are the norm?
I'm finally going for my 3rd sonogram tomorrow. I was talking to two women today when I was getting my hair done and they had like 5 or 6 sonograms already. I know one is high risk so I would expect that she gets more but the other girl wasn't and she had a lot!
What is the norm for regular (not high risk) pregnancies? Is my doctor being cheap with me???

Re: How many sonograms are the norm?
I have had 4 one at 8 because I was having so much anxiety about a missed miscarriage then one at 10 because the baby was measuring about 1 week behind and they knew it freaked me out. Then we opted to do the ultra screen so we got that ultrasound at 12 weeks. Then my last was at 22 weeks and I have another at 25 weeks because the doctor could not see all of the baby's heart that he needed to see. Now the "norm" at my doctors office is one at 20 weeks but they are pretty laid back so I am sure most women end up with more. Our ultrascreen was done at another facility specializing in the nuchal fold tests though.

Re: How many sonograms are the norm?
I had 2 sonograms. One at 20 weeks and then another at 28 weeks bc the baby had an irregular heartbeat during the doctor's visit. I thought my dr. would do one at the end of pg to check position and size, but she said she didn't need to.

Re: How many sonograms are the norm?
I've had 4 so far and I'm going to have one more in a few weeks, but 2 of them were because of a trip to the hospital. I believe 2-3 sonos are the norm...

Re: How many sonograms are the norm?
My Dr. is sono happy.
I had a little bleeding at 6-8 weeks (just a little) so I was classified as high risk. My office also has me come in for every little thing.
So I have had a sono at 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 weeks and I have my 12 week ultrascreen today.

Re: How many sonograms are the norm?
With my son I had 2 - one at 8 weeks and the big one at 20 - Now that I'm having twins it seems every month I get one. I guess their just being cautious to see they are both growing the same.

Re: How many sonograms are the norm?
My dr would have done the 11 week, 21 week and then later on around 30something weeks only - so three and for most of my friends that was average (3 or 4). But I was high risk so I had a lot more. I know some of my friends and family members have doctors that do them all along til at least the big u/s. I was more surprised to hear that and a bit jealous too! lol

Re: How many sonograms are the norm?
I'm in a similar situation as Sunny. I had cramping in the beginning so I was classified as high risk and even though the cramping went away and everything else has been fine since, they kept me going to the high risk place so I've had almost one sono per month. My last one is 2 weeks.

Re: How many sonograms are the norm?
It all depends on the kind of pregnancy you're experiencing. Technically I wasn't a high-risk pregnancy, but because I conceived 7 days after a miscarriage, I was an anxious mess, so my Dr. arranged for two ultrasounds in my first trimester so I could relax a little. When they found a Choroid Plexus Cyst at the 20 week ultrasound, I was given a Level 2 ultrasound. If it wasn't for those circumstances, I probably would've only had 2-3 ultrasounds the whole pregnancy.

Re: How many sonograms are the norm?
I am not considered high risk but I did conceive on medication from my RE. So once i found out I was PG, i had a sono a week until we saw and heard the heartbeat (at 8 weeks) and then I got handed off to my OB/GYN. After that I have had 3, one at 9 weeks with OB, ultrascreen at 12 weeks and level 2 at 20 weeks.
