Hotels inTimes Square, NY

I am going to a baptism in PA on 12/2. I thought it would be nice to go to NY on Wed 11/30 and show Joseph the tree ot Rockerfeller Center, take him to ths show with the rockettes, FAO shawrtz, the ice rink and every other toursit thing to do.
I just had NO IDEA that hotel rooms in Times Square are averaging about $550 a nite for 1 king bed room (we need 2 doubles). I have some serious sticker shock. Anyone have any connections for hotels in Times Squares?

No connections, but the Millennium Hotel on W44th is not that much, maybe $290. You literally walk out of the hotel and Boom TS. We always stay there when in NYC.

NYC is sold out - literally - this time of year, which is why hotels can get the rates they're getting. one of the dumpy hotels i used to work with is getting $700/night!!! That's why the rates are so high.

In Times Square, try the Marriott Marquis. They've got about 2,000 rooms.

The tree lighting is on 11/28.

The holiday season is pretty pricey in NYC.

I'd try Priceline, maybe you can get something for cheaper.

I usually stay at the Marriott Marquee Time square. We go every year in December. We book the get away package which includes dinner for two and breakfast for two. That usually comes out to around $400 a night.

If you just want a room, I believe it is around $380 a night. THis is why we get the package, since it is such a good deal. It is a really nice hotel!!

I've stayed at the Marriott Marquee with Dh and we both loved it. The views are great.

I had been looking for a hotel in Times Square as well for mid december, and had sticker shock too. I always stay in Sheratons, which are always very nice and clean, but for a Wed night it was over $300!

I found a hotel called The Gershwin. I'ts by no means luxury, but it's a room for the night, and it looks kind of interesting. Very artsy. Nothing like i'm used to staying in at all, but the price was right ($159 for the night for a supreme) and it's right in Times Square. You would probably need a suite, but that's still cheaper than anywhere else.

Check it out.

What about staying in one of the surrounding areas in NYC...Chelsea, Murry Hill, midtown?

I travel to NY on business now and have been finding nice boutique hotels in the $350 range in good areas near transportation.

The Marriott Marquee is great! I stayed there once, but everytime we go into the city my kids want to go in and ride the elevator!
