I don't regret this job but... UPDATED

Some of these parents are out of their minds!! My principal just let me know the the parent of one of my students contacted her. Apparently, she's not happy with the kid's grade on the report card. WHYYYY would she go to the PRINCIPAL first? SHE knows what goes on in the classroom? At least she told her to e-mail me, and she wants to give me a heads up on who I'll be dealing with. She's awesome. It's the mother I can't believe.

UPDATE: So I met with the principal and got the lowdown. Apparently, the reason this mother didn't want to contact me was because of what she considered unproductive discussions with one of the kid's teachers from last year. Did you all know we were the same people? I didn't. Thanks for all the responses, though. It certainly helps to know we're all in the same boat.

Some parents are just really unbelieveable!

I mean last year while I was student teaching a parent told my cooperating teacher that her son reads chapter books (this was 1st grade)

the kid was still reading at like a level D, chapter books my ***!Chat Icon

I really don't understand some of these people! Meanwhile I have a student in my class who I have had for 2 years...still have her report cards from last year. The mother never set up a meeting with me after missing both parent teacher conferences. So she has NO clue how this girl is doing. She never answers her phone when I ave called.

She didn't come to the PTC a few weeks ago either. She doesn;t even know my nameChat Icon UNBELIEVABLE!

They really can be unbelievable, can't they? I just want to know what she expected to get accomplished by calling the PRINCIPAL about her child's grade on the first report card this year. Like the principal has ANY idea what this kid is doing in my class? How is that helping the kid? She probably just wanted her to talk to me, but then how is that going to help the mother get informed? Ughhhhh... I don't want to call this woman AT ALL tomorrow.

Re: I don't regret this job but...

I have "one of those" parents this year, too.

I have a girl in my class (5th grade) who is just academically low--and unfortunately, that seems to be all she can accomplish (low IQ). So, her mom pays a ton of money to have a private tutor for her 3 days a week.

One day, I handed the girl an envelope and said in a regular voice (not yelling, not whispering), "Here, take this to your tutor for me".

The next day, I get CC'd on an email from my principal. He was replying to an email that she had sent him, saying "Mrs. Rivera advertised to the WHOLE CLASS that Kelsey is receiving tutoring, and this caused great embarrassment for my daughter. I demand that something be done about this."

Thankfully, my principal Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon and so did I. But I've completely lost all respect for her, because she didn't come to me with that concern first (and I told her so, during PTC). Chat Icon

Re: I don't regret this job but...

i had a parent tell me today (after missing three apts to pick up her child's report card) that she doesnt "have time for this". then she hung up on me.

now i know why her child is performing four years below her age.
