Flying in week 23?
DH wants to take a vacation in December as we haven't been on one since our honeymoon last December. He wants to go to Vegas. I keep putting him off because I'm not sure if it is a good idea to fly then or to go there when 23 weeks pregnant. He has never been there, so he is anxious to go before the baby comes since he knows we will probably not get there after we are parents!
My questions is: has anybody else flown this far at this this stage of their pregnancy, and was it OK? My Dr. said it is okay but he is very relaxed about most things so I was just wondering what other docs have said.
Also, any opinions on doing Vegas at this stage of the game?

I am so glad that you asked this question, cause DH and I are debating about doing something in my 20th week and we are both unsure also.

Re: Flying in week 23?
My Dr said traveling is fine up until your 34th week where it's still okay to travel, but try not to go an more than hr away so you can deliver in your own hospital.
At 23 weeks, if you have your dr's okay, mine said the same. Just be sure to drink plenty of fluids, and walk around so you don't get swollen feet or cramps in your legs.

Re: Flying in week 23?
I'm planning on going away sometime in February to Florida. I'm due the end of April but I think that's fine. I'm 20 weeks now and I know I can fly if I wanted to in the next few weeks.

Re: Flying in week 23?
it's fine....the cut off is usually 34-36 weeks. If it's a long flight, the dr will tell you to drink lots of water and to get up and walk around at least once an hour, if not every half hour. It's good for your circulation

I went to FLorida when I was 23 weeks. I was fine. Just remember to drink lots of water and walk around the cabin in the plane if you can.

I flew in my 25th week and my Dr said it was fine. He told me that most airlines have the restrictions and that it is safe to fly basically right up until the end. Just make sure you can get to the bathroom easily and drink plenty of water!

Re: Flying in week 23?
As the other girls have said flying is fine. I flew throughout my entire pg. I flew from NY to Ireland at 33 weeks. It was a 6 hour flight, so flying to Vegas should be fine in week 23. Just drink plenty of water and strech your legs.

DH & I are flying to Hawai'i when I will be in week 24 and my Dr. said it is fine. Get an isle seat for potty breaks and walking around the plane. I was told to drink a ton of H2O as well. Have fun in Vegas! I would ask the Dr. about riding the Stratosphere, I would imagine that would be a no-no.

Re: Flying in week 23?
My doctor said I could fly then but its just my preference not to. I flew at 14 weeks and it was very uncomfortable for me. The pressure of taking off and landing actually hurt my stomach. I felt it pushing down on the baby and causing a lot of pressure. I told DH no more flying til I have the baby.

Re: Flying in week 23?
I was able to fly up until 30 weeks (per docs orders),. I went to the Bahamas when I was 26-27 weeks and had no problems at all! Go for it!

Thanks. I've already been to Vegas and experienced the Stratosphere (which was like nothing else), so I will be okay to stay off it this time. DH can go if he wants to.
