Unreal!
I had an interview this AM with a fast growing company on LI.
everything was going so well with the interview until the HR manager told me what the salary was. I almost fell out of the chair I made more than that amount 8 years ago!!!!!!!
and then she was complaining to me that they keep losing people after a few months time. gee, I wonder why
if this company is able to grow at that rate with people leaving left and right, imagine their potential if they actually paid people what they're worth.
it's a real shame too - she basically wanted to hire me on the spot and the job sounded really interesting. I just cannot believe how low the pay was!

Re: Unreal!
It is terrible...when I made the change 10 years ago, I took a 12k salary (then went back to the city) only to take a 16k paycut to teach in a private school (what I'm doing now) but I'm happy.

Re: Unreal!
I think they need to get a reality check about salaries. When I got some offers, I was shocked, since I made more in 1996

Re: Unreal!
what I don't get is how these employers expect to retain people they hire. lets say that someone is desperate for a job, so they take that lower salary. you KNOW they will keep looking until they find something that pays better. so they have wasted time, money and resources to hire and train you, only to be back to square 1 when you leave

Re: Unreal!
you didn't ask the salary range?
Did they know what you were making before and think tha you would take less?

Did they know what you were making before and think tha you would take less? yup, they knew what I was making before. she knew it was WAY lower, but she wanted to present the opportunity to me in person - which I appreciate. but still... give me a break! I am not that desperate that I would consider such a significant pay cut.
I had 2 VERY good interviews today though

Re: Unreal!
I hate when companies call me and tell me about jobs that they have to offer even though they know what I am looking for salary wise after seeing my cover letter or after filling out their online application that asks for a salary range. Its like they dont even care.....and it is a complete waste of time

Re: Unreal!
I have always worked in the city. I've applied to a few positions on Long Island knowing full well it would probably be at least a $10K pay cut. No one has even called me for an interview and I am guessing this is probably why!
