So....I'm fat. And I need help.

I'm currently the fattest I'e ever been in my life. I had my daughter 7 months ago and I haven't really lost much of the weight yet. And I have terrible eating habits. And I love to cook and bake. And I have very little free time to work out (but plenty to make up excused for not working out!).
What can I do for myself? I'm trying (starting today) to eat less...and eat better. But it's hard.
Any good recipe book suggestions?
Anything?
Please?

Chat Icon Lori, you were so successful on WW before! Have you thought of trying that again? I found that I couldn't be bothered with the points counting, but once I figured out the amounts I should be eating with WW I was most successful sticking with that...Figuring out basic breakfasts and lunches for work that I could pack up and bring along. Do you still have a membership to LR? They got a TON new machines--maybe you could go at night or weekends when Tom is home to mind Lily. The new machines make it so much more fun/easier for me...It really gives more variety for the workout. Even once I lost the weight I wanted to lose, I still had to go to the gym to continue firming up my stomach and legs.

Re: So....I'm fat. And I need help.

I love Cooking Light. I've been subscribing to it for a few years, and I also have one of their cookbooks. They have a lot of great recipes!
I plan all my meals for the week on Sunday, and just about everything I make is close to a 30 minute prep. So I don't really have to think much when I get home; I know what I'm making and it's done fast.
As for the baking, you can still eat treats! Just limit yourself to one treat day a week.

And for working out, anything will do you good right now, even if you can only spare 20 minutes. Can you work out to DVDs at home? I'm sure the library has ones you can borrow, or if you do NetFlix they may have them too. That way you'll have some variety, which is good too.

You can do it Lori! Chat Icon

Lori~ I agree with the PP and think you should look into WW again. I have just rejoined and now need to lose about 25-30 pounds of baby weight.

I agree! I am a huge fan of ww. It's important that you never give up and stay with it. You can do anything you set your mind to. I feel the hopelessness in your post...stay positive! You can do it Chat Icon

Re: So....I'm fat. And I need help.

Thanks everyone!
I have a lot of weight to lose. A lot.
And I don't have all that much time left over in my day. I've sat down and looked at myschedule to try to see when I can fit some working out in - and it's really not possible. Working 45 minutes away from home is really killing it!
I do have one of those walking DVDs though...I'm going to try that.
And I have to be better about eating, I know that! But I've been getting regular migraines and I have such a hard time not eating cr@p when I feel like cr@p!
UGH! Thank goodness Lily is as cute as she is....otherwise I'd be really annoyed!

Re: So....I'm fat. And I need help.

Lori~ I know how you're feeling. It's like you're in a hole and you just can't get out, let alone SEE out of the top. You'll finally get to the point where you say "ENOUGH", I'm taking control.

Once you get there, that feeling of taking control is almost exhilerating. Rather than focusing on the whole, just focus on the parts. Don't worry so much about not having time to work out. Rather, focus on each day as it comes. Plan to eat well for 2 meals, then 3. Plan to drink more water (OMG- we ALL need more water).

I got an excercise tape for the days I can't get out or go to the gym. Maddie cracks up laughing watching me from her excersaucer.

You CAN do this. You did it before.....

this is awesome. take her up on it!

what about lunch time? can you walk anywhere during lunch for 20 mins..and then eat at your desk.

are there any stairs in your office or in your house?

you can break up a 30 minute workout into 10 min intervals...10 in the monring, 10 during lunch, and 10 at night.

like...10 minute squats, lunges and stair climbing in the morning.

10 minutes fast walking at lunch

10 minutes of jumping rope/jacks/jogging in place
crunches, tricep dips.

good luck to you!

Re: So....I'm fat. And I need help.

ugh, I'm fat too, but I'm resolved to do something about it in 2008! I'm all about the baby steps this time, so that one failure doesn't cause me to give up.

If you can't find time to exercise, then don't, at least not at first. Concentrate on eating better and just not being lazy. For example park a bit father away from the entrance when you go to stores. Make picking up toys an exercise by doing squats instead f bending at the waist etc.

Once you get on a roll you'll fit in exercise because you'll want to!

Re: So....I'm fat. And I need help.

Lori/Christy............

I feel your pain - pregnancy weight has been a big old beeeeeyotch to take off for me. BUT instead of looking at it like "I have 30 pounds I need to lose" I have been taking it one step at a time.

I really got fed up back in May when someone asked me when #3 was due - came home crying, joined the gym and hired a trainer Chat Icon

I can't do WW - I just can't deal with the points and everything else. I think its an amazing program but it doesn't fit my lifestyle. I have been doing my own thing and so far I've lost 24 of the 40 I'd like to lose.

I just had to start putting me first - obviously with kids its one of the hardest things to do. Now, my kids go to sleep I'm out the door and at the gym. If Ava is still up, well, my DH can put her to sleep......he's a parent too. I'm there at 8/8:30 at night. Its nice and quiet and that is my "mommy" time. Its the time to take care of me and honestly, that was the hardest step for me was dedicating myself to that time b/c there was/is sooooo much to do at home but I've learned to let it go.

Watch your portion sizes and teach yourself to pick better foods. You like chips, get baked ones. You like a certain dressing, go lowfat. Craving something sweet - pears really get me lately.

If you keep your goals small its so much easier - at least it was for me. I'm not going to lie and say I've been great all the time - I haven't. Tonight was the first night I worked out in over a month but I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I'm just going to start again and get back into it.

If there is anything I can do for you guys let me know - I've BTDT.

Hugs!

Re: So....I'm fat. And I need help.

You guys are great. Seriously. I forgot all about this thread and came back to check and you're all so nice. And have so many good suggestions.
Wendy - I think I may take you up on that offer! I just have ti figure out which is the best time for me...hopefully it'll work for you too. And then I have to get some workout clothes that fit me.
Weight Watchers was good - but I really can't spend extra money now. last time I did it, I got a discount, and I can't get it anymore...but it gets pricey. And I never went to meetings, so it was kind of pointless.
I have a good idea of what I should and shouldn't eat. I just have to get the willpower to do it!
I've been good this week though. I gained weight last week Chat Icon , but I weight myself every morning...and this morning I did really well! I doubt I'll look how I want in time for my brother's June wedding....but at least I won't feel as terrible as I do now!

Just let me know!! Even if we just do ONE class, EVERY week, it's one more than we are doing now, right?

And come on about the June wedding, chances are it will get postponed Chat Icon

At least im not the only one that feels that way... Lori- after my 2 losses last year I joined weight watchers- I have been on the Core program for 6 months and lost 40 lbs.. I just started exercising and am at 43.4 lbs down.... it doesnt feel restrictive because its lean meats, fruits veggies, fatfree dairy there are so many combo's to create....

Me too! My most depressing piont ever -- after realizing I weigh 15lbs more than I have ever been before (and my old high point wasn't me slender) was having someone at work ask me if I was pregnant. Chat Icon
