Hi everyone,
I have an observation coming up with the district's administration (not just my AP or principal) and am tossing around ideas about what to do... I am the G&T teacher in my bldg and on the day/time he is coming to observe, I will have my 6th graders who are currently working on mock trials. They're putting together cases for Holes, Goldilocks, and The Three Little Pigs. They are pretty self sufficient on this right now, so I feel like I have to suspend that project and do something else for the 40 min that he'll be with us. The unit I'm doing needs to be done by 2/6 and I only see them 1 time a week, so I feel bad suspending the unit, but it's sort of my only option. Unless of course I did some sort of lesson on how to appropriately question a witness and anticipating the other side's questions so you're ready to object or follow up the question. Any way I can make that fun?

My other thought was that I could do a lesson on debating with them. I got this great Scholastic book that has a short reading selection on a topic and a debate question. They could work in teams to come up with 1 side of the argument and anticipate what the other side will argue. I could use this as a segue or connection to "now that you've thought of the other side's argument for this issue, I want you to go back to the questions that you've created for your witnesses and reevaluate them. Come up with questions the other side will probably ask."

Also could potentially connect it to the political debate or show them a youtube clip...

I'm rambling, but would appreciate any help or direction you could offer!
