If you were going to an all-inclusive

In Mexico or the Dominican Republic, or that type, how many nights would you spend there? Not that I am going anytime soon, but a girl can dream! Chat Icon Plus I like to know just to see how much $$$ we would have to save up in the future to take a trip like this.

Re: If you were going to an all-inclusive

I've been shopping these lately for a possible few months late anniversary trip next fall.

I think 5-7 nights would be good. Airfare is so expensive that by the time you get there, you better stay for a few days.

(ie, I priced 3 nights, 700 per person, 400 of which was airfare to the DR)

I went to Mexico for 7 nights all inclusive and I got bored. I think 4-5 days is ideal.

Yeah, we're not sun people. Chat Icon We would like to be on the water, or go on excursions rather than sit in the sun all day. So 7 days may be too much for us. But I've always wanted to go to an all-inclusive, and they do have excursions and stuff to do, right?

Re: If you were going to an all-inclusive

We did 5 in DR which was great, 11 in Mexico for our HM which was too much. Doing DR again for 5 next week Chat Icon. Really you do get bored after that. 7 would probably be the max I could take.

We went to DR for 7 nights. They had 10 day packages but that would have been too long in the same place for us.

Re: If you were going to an all-inclusive

I like to go for 7, and my DH and I don't get bored, but we love the beach and sun. I can read on the beach for days on end, and DH will always join in on the resort run volleyball games and stuff like that.

Most resorts will run excursions, but that would be extra $$. Onsite a lot of them have non motorized water sports so you can kayak, snorkel or sail and dh and i always use the equipment they have there.

If you search on sites like cheapcaribbean.com or travelzoo.com you can find really great deals. We did a 7 night to St. Lucia for about $900 pp and Cancun a few years back for 7 nights for $750 a couple. Not always the top resorts, but clean nice places that we had a wonderful time.

HTH!!

4-5 days. Anything longer than that and I'd start to get bored.

Re: If you were going to an all-inclusive

ive been to both mexico and dominican republic on two occasions each for an all inclusive vacation.

hands down we loved mexico the best. the prices are similar its really about the hotel that you pick that will determine how much you spend.

we went to the dominican republic because they have gambling there. they didnt in mexico

to me mexico also had better food.

in mexico we stayed at the adventura spa palace in playa del carmen, and sunset royal in cancun

in the domincan republic we stayed at the melia carib tropical, and sunscape the beach which now has been taken over by another hotel.

as for the amount of time i would say mexico or the dominican republic 5-7 days is plenty depending on what you want to do. we usually go for 7 days. but the trip to playa del carmen was our honeymoon and we went for 11 days and it was plenty i wish i was there now!!!!!

good luck on your dream vacation!!!! and i totally use and abuse trip advisor anywhere i got so defiently look at that before booking anything.

We went to Mexico on our HM for 7 days and it was perfect, enough time to relax and enough time to go explore.

Re: If you were going to an all-inclusive

For our honeymoon we went to an AI in the Riviera Maya for 9 nights. It was WAY too long. Especially since the ocean at the resort wasn't really swimmable...there was too much coral, it was great for snorkling, but I'm not a huge fan of snorkling.

The resort was about 40 minutes from the nearest "city" (playa del carmen) and there wasn't much else to do on the property (it was too hot to do much of anything outside the pool!)

So, we spent a FORTUNE on excursions and cab rides to playa.

Next time I will go for a shorter time.

I think any trip longer than 5 days should include more than 1 destination- like traveling through europe, a cruise, or something like costa rica where there are several climates to explore

Re: If you were going to an all-inclusive

I think for DR 5-7 days would be plenty. There's less to do there as far as excursions go. If you're going to Mexico, I would say atleast a week. There is a lot more to do and see.

I agree, more leaning to the 7 side because of boredom (I get bored easily), leaning to the 10 because I could really use a vacation. Chat Icon

DH and I booked through beachdestinations.com They offered really competative rates. We stayed 6 nights and were very happy.

Re: If you were going to an all-inclusive

we've been to a lot of islands and almost always stayed AI. I think Mexico was by far the most reasonable. We stayed at Aventura Spa and although the resort was really nice there were things I would like to change. We stayed 7 nights and it was perfect. We did a lot of beach and pool. They have the chairs that sit in the water which kept things nice and cool.

They have sister resorts close by and we took a cab and explored some of the others free.

We did a few excursions as well. All in all we spent about $2400 for both including air.

There was a lot of value in this trip. It's an excellent resort. Other caribbean islands are way more expensive.

Enjoy whatever you choose!
