Where to stay and what to do in San Diego?

I liked this suggestion since it's not a long flight from us and it's near the beach.

Now and good family hotel recommendations and things to do/see with a toddler?

I went to san diego last fall with my dh. No suggestions for hotels, but for activites, there are a ton.

Right in San Diego is the San Deigo zoo, which is amazing. Sea world is only about 20 minutes away. THe beach at La Jolla or Mission beach is where the sea lions are alwasy out sun bathing on the sand. You could go to a Padres game if you like baseball.

If you rent a car, there is the zoo's wild animal park about 40 miles away, which is like a safari. The animals roam free and you drive in a big vehicle to see them. About 60 miles away is Disney land, Knotts berry farm and lego land if you want to do an amusement park. Your also only about an hour to Mexico if you wanted to take a day trip there to Rosarita.

what are you looking for? beach (la jolla, mission beach, coronado), downtown (gaslamp, marina), sights (Balboa Park)? there are a lot of options. I used to live there - let me know if you have questions.

the gaslamp and la jolla are musts for food. seaworld, SD zoo, wild animal park. torrey pines for golf. think outside activities for SD - hot air baloon ride, hanggliding, biking, kayaking, surfing, etc - if you are looking into any of those let me know - I can tell you good places to go. don't forget tijuana, mexico!

With a toddler, I'd go see the Children's Pool in La Jolla! It's a little part of the beach that's full of sea lions. You can't actually go on the beach there, but it's cool to see. Also, Sea World, the zoo at Balboa Park, Wild Animal Park, the beach... there's a small amusement park at Mission Beach, but I'm not sure if it has rides for young kids or not.

I would definitly go to lego land my kids love it there... also, sea world, the wild animal park, the zoo of course, the aquarium, disneyland, la jolla beach, mission beach, mission bay for a picnic and a walk around the bay.. university town center has ice skating ( i think they still do:)) downtown san diego has neat restaurants.. omg there are a ton of things to do!

Definitely go up to La Jolla. It was so beautiful.

we were just there in December. We stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado.


We took a Trolly ride around the city and even dropped you off at the Zoo.
It was interesting to learn the history and see the zoo.

i was there for a business conference and stayed at the hyatt downtown by the marina near the gaslamp area.
there are great restaurants down there!
