How far do you travel to your gym?

I love my new house and all, but I miss the situation I had when I lived in my old apartment. I had two NYSC clubs I could go to, so close to home. Now that I've moved, I've got 3 I can go to but they're not nearly as close.

The closest one I don't like at all (lousy classes and just not as nice of a gym). It's about 10 miles away but takes about 15-20 minutes to get to (gotta love the side roads).

The next closest one is near work...it's great for after work but when I'm not working...I hate to drive all the way back there!Chat Icon that's about 15 miles away, about 25 minutes. Annoying because this morning I'm trying to decide if I want to go there...I have to be back at work in the afternoon anyway to play for drama club!Chat Icon

Third gym is supposedly less than 9 miles away...but yet I get conflicting reports. I check mapquest and it's 16 miles away yet I can get there in 20 minutes. I don't get it! this gym seems to be the best - lots more classes, and seems like a newer location. And they have great class times (4pm on weekdays which I LOVE!).

Sorry for the rundown here but I'm wondering...what would you do? is it worth going out of your way to a GOOD gym with great classes? Or should I suck it up, go to the closer one and do my own workout and skip classes?

I'd be sad to leave NYSC but I'm starting to consider it! During the school year it's great since it's by work...but summer it'll stink. Although it's great when I visit L.I.

Thanks for listening to my rant. Hearing your situations might help me - and I'd love your advice! I'm a bit of an obsessive gym goer as you can see....Chat Icon

TIA!

Re: How far do you travel to your gym?

my gym is about 5-10 min from my apt. i am going to be in the same situation as you when i buy a house. the neighborhood i want to live in does not have a gym nearby and if i continued at my current gym, it would take me 20 min to get there. for me, that eats up too much time along with the work out.

Re: How far do you travel to your gym?

It is an hour from my apartment, but a 5 min walk from work. I think it is easier for me to go straight after work; if it was close to my house I would never go.

about a mile from my house. If it were any further away, I'd probably never go.

Re: How far do you travel to your gym?

Mine is about 5-10 minutes away as well. I used to belong to a gym closer to school thinking I would go on the way home and never did. Maybe you can find a great local gym that also has great classes and maybe a little closer? Chat Icon

Before my most recent move 2 minute drive. Now 5-10 minute drive....which I was annoyed about but decided it really doesn't matter.

When I lived in NYC I was 5.5 blocks but that was a good 7 minute walk...so no real difference!

Re: How far do you travel to your gym?

Mine is about 10 minutes away but it's a really nice gym so I like going there. There is another one that would be a 2 minute drive but it has older equipment and no tv's on the cardio equipment. DH joined it when we first moved here but he has since switched to my gym.

Re: How far do you travel to your gym?

there are a ton in the city (where I work), one of which is a five minute walk away so i can go at lunch or after work. if i want to go on the weekend though, the closest one is about 35 minutes from my house which kills me. i rarely go on the weekends.

I am located right in between two planet fitnesses. Both are about 15 minutes away. My old gym was only 5 minutes away and I literally had to pass by it ont the way home from work . . . I miss that.
