Hawaii
Hi! DH and i are looking to take a trip to hawaii this summer. just wanted some advice on where to go- because i've never been there, and DH was there when he was really young. right now, we're thinking of going for 8 or 9 nights... maybe 5 nights on maui, and 4 nights on the big island. does this sound good?? is there enough to see on each to spend that much time on each? should we spend time on another island instead?? any advice would be great!

Re: Hawaii
We went to Maui for 6 days and Oahu and Kauai for three days each. I think we had enough time on each island.
I don't know anything about the big island - but 5 days in Maui should be good. I recommend the Hyatt - great hotel!

Re: Hawaii
i highly, highly recommend Kauai and if you go there, stay at the Grand Hyatt. Worth every penny!!!!!
We went for our HM, 9 nights - 4 in Kauai and 5 in Maui. I wish I had reversed that -- Maui was too commercial for me.

Re: Hawaii
I haven't been to Kaui but heard it was beautiful
I do think if you are going all the way to Hawaii you should definitely stay in Oahu for a few days - maybe 3 but no more, you can see pearl harbor, go to lunch at dukes in waikiki , hike Diamonhead and also drive the entire perimeter of the island all the way up to the northshore and back (me & my sister did this it took maybe 3 hrs and was so much fun)
I do think you must must go to the Big Island - even if it is just for the day. Back 7 yrs ago when I was there it cost like $160 bucks to take a puddle jumper to the Big Island and take a day tour w/ a guide -- so worth it!

Re: Hawaii
I didn't go to the Big Island but, I know people who did go there and had an amazing time.
I would think 4-5 nights is perfect for Maui. We only stayed there 2 nights and didn't get to do everything we wanted to do.
We spent a week in Kauai. It was very relaxing. It is a decent amount "slower" than Maui. The food is amazing and the island is beautiful.

Re: Hawaii
we stayed on Big Island for a whole week and still have not seen everything we wanted to see... we stayed at Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, it is cheaper in comparison to other hotels on the island but we really enjoyed the property... anyways, Big Island is really great, lots to see plus it is not as crowded as other islands might be...
