If you have cruised with them, what was your experience? How was the experience for kids?

TIA

we've sailed with them 3 times and have always been happy. I dont know about kids though- we dont have any. We generally just park ourselves by the pool and drink all day- not much to complain about there. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Norwegian Cruiseline

they definitely keep kids busy and supervised - the best part is the freestyle dining!

Re: Norwegian Cruiseline

We cruised it for our HM & were not thrilled. This was our 3rd cruise but first on NCL. We felt it was not comparable to other ships (Disney, Princess).

My BIL & SIL went on NCL Spirit 2 weeks after us with their 9 month old & they were not impressed either. They were VERY strict about my nephew using the pool since he was in diapers. To them, it was not a "kid-friendly" ship

Re: Norwegian Cruiseline

I would say it depends on the age of your children. I know that they do not let kids with swim diapers in any of the pools, but I would think it would be fine for older kids. We did the NCL Spirit out of NYC when I was preggo and it was just ok. We had only been on Carnival beforehand and were kind of disappointed. The ship was much smaller and even though we loved the freestyle dining and enjoyed the specialty restaurants, the other food (buffet, diner type place and room service) were lacking. We got a great price though, so I would still consider cruising with them again if I got a good deal.

Re: Norwegian Cruiseline

We went on an NCL cruise once and it was great. I don't have any children but there were kids on board and it seemed like there were a lot of activities for them to do according to the itineraries.

Re: Norwegian Cruiseline

We did an NCL cruise last year and I would not cruise with them again. I found the food to be very mediocre, the service not great, and the freestyle dining to be a little far-fetched. You can eat when you want, as long as you had a reservation or they had room in their dining room when you wanted to eat. I didn't travel with children.

Re: Norwegian Cruiseline

I cruised NCL two years ago out of NY.
I loved it.
I was with my 12 year old, so I cant address how it might be for small children. While it did not seem like it was super kid-oriented, there was a lot to do. There was a cool kids' pool, movies, library, shuffleboard, activities and lots of food. There was also like a kids' camp the smaller kids could sign up for during the day.
We liked the dining style, and ate awesome dinners in different restaurants each night.

ETA: Edited for stinky typing.

Re: Norwegian Cruiseline

I like them for the freestyle dining instead of having a timed meal

If you are looking for the most kid-friendly cruise it is on Disney!

Re: Norwegian Cruiseline

I went on a 1-night cruise on the norwegian dawn for my bach party and we were not impressed. The food wasn't good at all either. That's my only experience with norwegian though.

Now, Royal Caribbean I could write a book about. We had the best time on our cruise last week (RCCL Navigator of the Seas)... the food, activities, room, the ship in general... it was all amazing.

My parents have been on every cruiseline and hated Norwegian. And they said it was not as kid friendly as the rest.
