Norwegian cruises?

Anyone been on one?

My parents are taking us on a Bahamas cruise in June and my DH keeps saying the food will s*ck and there won't be anything to do - total PITA!

Can anyone tell me what you did on your Norwegian cruise? Chat Icon

Re: Norwegian cruises?

We took the Norwegian Sun to Alaska for our honeymoon. The food in the restaurants (which you pay a very little bit more for) is great. We tried the Italian, Japanese and French restaurants for dinner and then did the main dining room or buffet for breakfast and lunch. Plus we had meals off the ship and had room service a few times. We liked that with their "Freestyle Cruising" we got to eat when we wanted, where we wanted, and we were always seated by ourselves at a table by a window. It was really nice.

Since we were on our honeymoon, we weren't too interested in the shipboard activities Chat Icon Chat Icon But there was a lot to do on board, each ship has slightly different ammenities so you should look at your ship on ncl.com to see what exactly they offer.

Re: Norwegian cruises?

IMO, Norwegian is the BEST line for people you and your parents age. (meaning its NOT full of really old people)

THe shows are incredible, and the food was better than any other cruiseline I've been on (Royal Carib, Carnival, Princess).

You're going to LOVE IT. (I think you'll enjoy the ship more than the Bahamas)

The clubs are hoppin at night too Chat Icon

Re: Norwegian cruises?

Are you going on the Norwegian Dawn? Because 2 years ago we went on the Norwegian Dawn and two stops were in the Bahamas. One on a private island and one in Naussau. It also stopped at Orlando and Miami. Nassau we found to be dirty and nasty. If you go there then I suggest to go over this bridge that takes you into paradise island which is nicer. DH fell in love with that private island we went to that NCL owns.

We loved the ship. Food was good. You really have to check out the daily bulletin that the ship gives you for activities. There is so much to do. It all depends on the kind of game joiner you are.

Let me know if this is the ship you are going on. I can give you more info.

Re: Norwegian cruises?

Thanks everyone!

There are two itineraries that leave from NY - one is on the Dawn the other is the Spirit. From what I've read on the website, I'm pushing for the Dawn...

I've been to the Bahamas before, so I know what to expect from the islands, I'm more concerned about the ship.

Thank you!!!

Re: Norwegian cruises?

I was on the Spirit when I went to Alaska back in August. They had just added the ship to their fleet and were getting ready to give it a big remodeling job.

We had a great time. I can't say much about the food because I only ate the vegetarian meals (they were not great), but DH seemed to enjoy his meals. We didn't go to any of the "cover charge" restaurants. We did enjoy several games of trivia, relaxing in the hot tub, participating in the kareoke nights and knocking back a few libations. In other words we were never bored.

Re: Norwegian cruises?

We loved the Dawn! We were actually contemplating going back on the Dawn this year but we have our little guy on the way so no cruise for us. I am glad that we got to do 3 cruises before having a baby. But DH wants to go back next year with the baby.

Re: Norwegian cruises?

My DH proposed to my on the Norwegian Dawn. So it holds a really special place in my heart. I am prob biased because of that, but I found that there was a lot to do, we went on a few excursions and also enjoyed the private island. We went snorkling there and it was so much fun. I liked not being locked into food times and having privacy. I also must say they had a lot of good classes on the trip we took. We stayed on the ship the day it went into Miami and had basically the run of the ship. The pool was empty so it was fantastic. It felt really private. We really liked it a lot.

Oh how sweet!

What was the name of that private island? I just totally blanked out on that. Did you ever go to the spa? They had a spa pool and noone was hardly ever in there so we felt like we had it to ourselves. It worked out well for us since the pools on the deck are always crowded. I never bother with those. We went to that Japanese restaurant that you had to pay a cover charge for and it was sooooooo good!
